Throw in a few palm trees and would look like some city in the Middle East.

Jaipur has some sort of air to it from these pictures, that makes me feel that this is one of the cleanest and most well maintained cities in India. It seems to me like a city in the west or Middle East. How is the pollution in Jaipur?

Jaipur is India's first planned city . pollution is not that much as it is a very open city. even in the old city all the streets are very wide and well laid out. it is clean by indian standards, though not as clean as some western city. but the city govt and Jaipur Development Authority is very powerful. they banned all the old tempos which was main mode of transportation long time ago and replaced them with better buses. there is barely any encrochment as the city govt comes down very hard on them.
having said all that, it lacks greenry and has problem with dust (fine sand) due to the desert it is sitting on.
in rains it gets better, definately a treat to visit.

3 multi-level parking projects inaugurated

Quote:
JAIPUR: Three major parking projects worth over Rs 160 crore were inaugurated in the city on Sunday. They will provide parking facilities to around 3,000 vehicles. The three projects are a 2,000 vehicle capacity underground parking at the Ramleela Ground, a 500 vehicle parking at Ashok Marg culvert and another 500 vehicle parking near Panch Batti.

The projects are being promoted by the JMC and will be developed on public private partnership. Urban development minister Shanti Dhariwal inaugurated all the projects. Dhariwal said solving parking problems will be a major challenge for the development of Jaipur. "Development of three parking projects is the first step in the direction of making Jaipur a world-class city," said Dhariwal.

"It has been due to the progressive vision of the state government that seven multi-level parking projects have been proposed to be developed in the city," the minister added as he held the previous government responsible for being negligent towards the issue.

Parking has been a major issue in the fast-growing Jaipur and even as the population of the city has been growing by 6%, the number of registered vehicles increases by 12% annually.

"Vehicles parked on roads not only obstruct the traffic, lack of parking space also creates a difficulty for the visitors at the major markets. It has been a good move from the government to initiate special measures for solution of the issue," said MLA Civil Lines, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas.

Work on four multi-level parking proposed at Atish Market, Chandpole Anaj Mandi, and Government Hostel and near Singhdwar to be developed on PPP module by the municipal corporation are expected to generate an additional parking space for 5,400 four-wheelers. A 1,500 vehicle parking is also being developed at Ramniwas Bagh by the JDA.

The underground parking at Ramleela Ground is expected to eradicate encroachments on roads by unauthorized parking in Walled City. The parking initially was proposed to be nearly 300 vehicle capacity but it was later expanded to accommodate 2,000 vehicles considering the increase in parking demand. The urban development department has however assured that the parking project will not affect the appearance and functionality of the Ramleela Ground.

Meanwhile, as a mark of protest, the BJP members did not attend any of the foundation-laying ceremony and kalicharn Sarraf BJP MLA and senior leader who was invited as special guest did not turn up along all his contingents.

Jaipur Metro project to be completed in time, says Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has asked officials of the Jaipur Metro Rail Project to ensure its completion within the stipulated time period.

Chairing a high-level meeting here to expedite the project, Mr. Gehlot asked to explore mobilisation of financial resources for the project.

The project should be completed within the stipulated time frame with strong technical supervision, best available skill and by using modernised engineering, he said.

Various financial aspects of the project were also discussed in the meeting.

Mr. Gehlot also directed to constitute a technical-core committee consisting of management, finance, law and technical experts which would help to take a spot decision.
