Azure Power to build 1,000 MW solar project in Rajasthan

Business Standard
Quote:
Azure Power Monday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan government to develop a 1,000 MW solar power project.

The power plant is the largest capacity project won under the ambitious Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission -Phase II (JNNSM) which was launched by the central government in 2010 to generate 20,000 MW of solar power by the end of the 13th Five Year Plan in 2022.

With this project, the company has become the largest private solar investor in Rajasthan with a total investment capital over Rs.1,300 crore. The total power generation capacity for the company under JNNSM presently is at 142 MW.

The company is already building a 100 MW solar power plant in the state stated to be commissioned by April 2015.

"Azure has been successful in bringing the power cost from Rs.17 (per unit) in 2009 to Rs.5.45 with viability gap funding in 2014. We hope this trend will continue to achieve grid parity in the near future," company chairman H. S. Wadhwa said.

Spread across 725 acres of land at Hardhani and Nandia Kalan in Jodhpur, the plant will electrify 100,000 households and create an estimated 1,500 jobs in the area. The project is expected to be completed before April 30, 2015.

Vasundhara Raje's green concern a black spot on solar plant

Feb 10, 2014, 05.24AM IST

JAIPUR: At a time when Union minister for new and renewable energy Farooq Abdullah is contemplating to ask World Bank for an assistance of $500 million for the first phase of Sambhar ultra-mega solar power project, chief minister Vasundhara Raje has expressed serious reservation and concerns about the project.

Abdullah, in a written reply in Parliament on Saturday, had informed the House that the finance department of the government is considering a proposal for the solar project and is looking after the procedural operations that the World Bank can consider. However on the flip side, in a letter to Union minister for heavy industries and public enterprises Praful Patel, Raje has said, "to kindly direct officials concerned not to take up the proposal of establishing a solar park at Sambhar as the Rajasthan government wishes to reserve this area only for salt production and tourism development activities."

Among the reasons that Raje has given to oppose the proposal is that it is in direct contravention with the provisions of Wet Lands (Conservation and management) Rules 2010 of the Centre under which Sambhar Lake is a notified wetland. Section 4 of these rules mandatorily prohibits not only setting up of new industry but also expansion of the existing ones.

Considering that Sambhar is a 'Ramsar Site' setting up of a power plant would certainly have an adverse environmental impact and ruin the tourism potential of the region, wrote Raje. It may be noted that Ashok Ghelot government had granted in principle approval to the project on September 17, 2013 and if successfully built, it will be the world's biggest solar plant. In a first of its kind venture, a week ago six PSUs - Solar Energy Corporation of India , BHEL, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Sambhar Salts, SJVN Ltd and Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Ltd signed an MoU to join hands to form a Special Purpose Vehicle Sambhar Solar Power Ltd.

Not sure about weather this project will come up in Neemrana, Alwar or their is any other Neemrana too.
If This comes in Neemrana, Rajasthan than it will be a great project.

Saw the resurgent Rajasthan 2015 details and website. Why there is only one Partner country? It seems Indian business commnunity are too obsessed with the Singapore hype in recent times! Every Indian state seems to be working as an official marketing agent of Singapore The govt of Rajasthan should bring more partner countries and exhibit that on website! Bring in countries which really invests.
