It's a bit too similar to the Hudson Yards office towers, but would any of us mind it? Probably not.

First I thought it could be a future supertall with that square footage, but that plot is huge, could easily fit 2 million in something much shorter.

A shame. Although the building is pretty awful, I hoped someone would restore its Beaux Arts facade, it would form a beautiful contrast with One Vanderbilt, but it it what it is, I just hope it will be replaced by something good-looking.

I made a thread in the NYC forum for discussion of this project while we wait for news about the height.

AMAZING NEWS on the Hyatt. I used to go there all the time for the nice bathrooms as a break on my walk from uptown to downtown, but other than that, I always thought it deserved to be demolished perhaps more than any other building in NYC. Such an affront to Grand Central. Would love a piazza or some sort of public space there instead, but I imagine this building will downsize the proximity of the building to GCT. Can not wait to see what comes. Literally impossible to be worse than the Hyatt that is there now. The Hyatt that currently exists is simply everything wrong with modern architecture. Even a hole in the ground is an improvement. KUDOS! to a more perfect NYC.

So happy to see how well the Midtown East rezoning is going. Losing what we lost with the buildings where One vanderbilt was, was difficult. But losing the Hyatt is a total blessing to NYC. An early christmas present that lasts for eternity, and will sandwich GCT between two giants, which in my opnion, serves as a way of emphasising and reflecting the beauty that is Grand Central Terminal even more.

Come on dude, that is absolutely ludicrous to say. Once the building was clad in that atrocious glass, any hope of this surviving was done. This is AMAZING news, and in my opinion, better than replacing the gorgeous beauz arts that was with some faux modern rendition.

I've seen many examples of a building's facade being restored to its original shape even in the USA, so I fail to understand why it would be such a problem here. I get that the investors want a tower there, but since I'm not one of them, I get to daydream...

I don't see any problems with the HQ2 deal. If it's about the money, big opportunities require big incentives. If it's about the " behind closed doors" negotiations, our elected Mayor and Governor did their jobs and made a deal. They're our representation. If you don't like their decision, fine, vote them out next time.

Amazon may pull out of LIC campus amid opposition: report

Quote:
Since Amazon is yet to lease or purchase office space for the project, it would be able to withdraw, the Washington Post reported, citing two sources familiar with the company’s thinking.

[...]

Amazon executives have had internal discussions recently to reassess New York plan and explore alternatives, the report said. While Virginia officials quickly passed an incentive package for the company’s plans there, final approval from New York isn’t expected until 2020.

“The question is whether it’s worth it if the politicians in New York don’t want the project, especially with how people in Virginia and Nashville have been so welcoming,” a person familiar with the deliberations told the Post.

[...]

This month, the state Senate appointed a vocal critic to a key board that could veto Amazon’s plan. Sen. Michael Gianaris will be among three voting members of the Public Authorities Control Board — and any voting member has the power to block projects that come before it.

Democratic freshman U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose district borders the proposed Amazon site, has rallied against the project.
