ps it seems that all the well-known tertiary institution are located outside of Kota Bharu meh hehehe !!!

MPKB have USM medical campus at Kubang Kerian and UMK campus at Pengkalan Chepa so I think they fulfill the tertiary institution criteria, and population should hit over 500K by the time Census 2020 survey come, so maybe there's others requirement that MPKB haven't reach yet.

Below is the criteria and requirement on getting city status set by KPKT
Quote:
1) PBT harus meliputi kawasan pusat pentadbiran sesebuah negeri.

2) Mempunyai penduduk melebihi 500,000 orang.

Kuantan officially still in municipal status but I just found out federal approved Kuantan city status upgrade a few months back.

So now Kuantan, Seberang Perai, and Seremban only need official ceremony to declare city status and as for Subang Jaya are currently in review on federal level.

Just wondering - why Kuantan hasn't decided on a date, is it because they haven't complied with some requirements ???

MPSJ city status application will brought out to federal cabinet in September. Note that MPSJ area consists of Subang Jaya, Puchong, Kinrara, and Seri Kembangan/Serdang.

Quote:
SUBANG JAYA: Subang Jaya is set to become a city by early next year. Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ)’s application to upgrade the status of the council has been approved by the Selangor government.

MPSJ president Noraini Roslan said the state government would go through the proper process in presenting the proposal to the Cabinet for approval.

“According to the Housing and Local Government Ministry the matter is going to be brought up to the Cabinet this September,“ she said at a press conference at MPSJ headquarters yesterday.

Kuantan case was different with MPSJ where Kuantan already get approval on state and federal level so it's up to MPK how long they are ready enough to officially declare the city status while MPSJ are currently to on preparing proposal to get review in federal cabinet so when MPSJ officially declare is another story in another time subject to cabinet decision to approve or reject MPSJ city status bid.

I believe Kuantan case might be similar to Seremban where they already get federal approval back in 2012 by merging Seremban and Nilai municipal council but the state government delay the ceremony for almost a decade to officially announced on early 2020 in order to upgrade the infrastructure on par with the city status.
