There are numerous threads dedicated to such topic. Please do not attempt to turn this thread about Shenzhen into a flame war.

There is just so much construction happening in almost all the chinese cities. However, is all this real estate bieng sold?. Is the construction and real estate sector in ur country overheating?. (I hope not, cuz i want to see more of those spectacular skyscrapers!)

there's huge demand for office towers, but residential sector is overheating.

I visited Shenzhen last year for a day when we were in Hong Kong (end februari/early march 2004) I found it a really nice, massive, colourfull and impressive city; some kick ass towers around, we visited both SEG plaza sky deck(!!) and offcourse Shun Hing Square (great food also on top. btw) Views from both towers was out of this world!!

When we were there they were still working on the subway so we walked our feet off! As Europeans we were also a sightseeying for a lot of people! Thats was kinda funny!
Tomorrow I will post some pics I made when I visited this great city!

Staring is not as common as most other Chinese cities. In the central city/downtown Luohu area, you get almost no stares. Ditto for the wealthy/financial/government district in most of Futian. But the farther you venture out from these areas, the more you will be stared at. I live in a little enclave called Lian Tang. The stares are not so bad. They seem to be worse for girls and for really tall people. This info has been reported by my friends who live here.

I dont think Shenzhen is nicer than Guangzhou, mabye richer, but I have only been to Guangzhou for 2 days. Guangzhou had more character, naturally, as it is thousands of years old, but it still has the modern gleaming skyscrapers and boulevards. And a beautiful riverfront, which Shenzhen lacks.
