Pasar Padang Besar dinaik taraf

Katanya bilangan kehadiran pelancong ke Padang Besar meningkat mendadak sejak Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) melancarkan perkhidmatan Keretapi Eletrik (ETS) tahun lepas.

- Bernama

Padang Besar round-the-clock border operation will spur growth, says Perlis MB
By MUHAMMAD MUSTAKIM RAMLI - April 11, 2017 @ 5:41pm

KANGAR: The federal government's move to extend operations at the border checkpoint at Padang Besar to 24 hours will help spur economic growth in Perlis.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said the move is in line with Padang Besar's status as the Border Trade Town in 2014.

Azlan said the state government supported the move to extend the Malaysia-Thai border checkpoint operation from 18 hours currently to 24 hours as it will help draw more visitors to Perlis.

"The state government fully supports the federal goverment's plan and at the same time, we also hope that several issues, in particular security inspection, to be given due importance to ensure no quarters will take advantage of it.

"There is a possibility that the move to extend the checkpoint operation will open the opportunity for cross-border smuggling, so the government must take into account this matter when finalising the plan," he told reporters on the sideline of the state legislative assembly meeting here today.

Yesterday, Azlan's counterpart, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said Kedah goverment has, in principle, agreed with the federal government's plan to extend operations at the border checkpoint at Bukit Kayu Hitam to 24 hours.

Bashah had informed the Kedah state legislative assembly that the government has scrutinised all relevant issues on extending the operation hours, in particular, security.

Ahmad Bashah said the operations extension would encourage foreign visitors' arrival and reduce traffic congestion at the CIQ complex during peak hours.

Perlis dijangka alami lonjakan ekonomi memberangsangkan
17 MEI 2017

Ketua Setiausaha Negara, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa dan Panglima Angkatan Tentera, Jeneral Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor mendahului senarai penerima.

- Bernama

Security lane along Malaysia-Thai border to be developed as northern region logistics hub
By Adie Suri Zulkefli and Ili Shazwani - June 11, 2017 @ 10:30pm

KANGAR: The security lane along the Malaysia-Thailand border in Padang Besar, Perlis to Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah will be transformed into the northern logistics hub to spur economic growth in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in announcing this today said the long-term plan was in line with the National Logistics Policy which aims to tap into the huge potential of southern Thailand and northern Malaysia’s logistics sector.

He said the plan was mooted following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s request for a comprehensive plan to spur economic growth in Perlis during the National Physical Development Committee (NPDC) meeting which was held five months ago.

“Through this proposal, the security lane from Padang Besar to Bukit Kayu Hitam will be developed into four lanes.

“The road will be linked to the Perlis Inland Port and we are confident that this long-term plan will become the new node for the northern region growth, which will create multiplier economic effects such as new industrial area.

“This infrastructure will position our international border with Thailand as the import-export logistics hub for goods and services for the region,”
he told reporters after attending a break fast session in conjunction with the ‘Penerapan Nilai Murni’ (Inculcating Good Virtues) programme organised by the Home Ministry at Masjid Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail here.

Perlis aims to be a high-income state by 2030 - MB Azlan Man

By ILI SHAZWANI - August 21, 2017 @ 9:35pm
KANGAR: Perlis is expected to attract more investments through the new development blueprint which spans until 2025.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said the special tax incentives under the Development Blueprint 2016-2025 (Blueprint 2.0) was expected to bring quality investment into the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) especially in Perlis.

He said the tax packages launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak recently, was timely to boost Perlis’ vision to achieve a high-income state by 2030.

He said the incentives would be offered to companies involved in activities such as manufacturing, agriculture and bio-industries as well as services sectors in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak.

He companies that met the requirement would be granted income tax exemption or allowance for qualifying capital expenditures, import duty exemption on plant and machinery.

He said the companies would also be entitled to stamp duty exemption on instrument of transfer or lease of land.

He said this would also apply on companies in the education sector such as the higher learning institutes, private and international schools.

"The tax incentives under the Blueprint 2.0 is expected to draw more investors to Perlis especially for Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) project,” he said at a press conference after a briefing session on the special tax incentives with Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq.

Meanwhile, Redza said the incentives were required to implement market-driven projects which were led by the private sector and to attract suitable anchor investors to NCER.

“NCIA will play the role of enabler and facilitator, in line with the federal position that the private sector should spearhead economic development,” he said.

Perlis UTC will be able to serve public's needs: Azlan Man
23 Oct 2017

KANGAR: The soon to be launched Perlis Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) will be able to serve to the public's needs, said Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

He said the UTC located in Sena state constituency here is special because it is about the only UTC to provide a Health Clinic with dental facilities to cater to adults, children and pregnant women.

"The Perlis UTC also offers a range of facilities for the community including a futsal court, gymnasium and site for night market and other businesses. These facilities are not available in other UTCs," he told reporters after a visit to the UTC site today.

Azlan said 22 state and federal agencies would be housed under one roof at the UTC and services from the National Registration, Immigration and Road Transport departments would be available through 15 counters.

He said at the Perlis UTC, which has a fully-equipped meeting room which could accommodate up to 60 people, would be available for rent.

Commenting on proposals that the MyBAS service offered frequent trips to the UTC, Azlan said the matter would be discussed at the exco meeting next week adding that this could enable more people to benefit from the UTC facilities. — Bernama
