Statues are great symbols or icons of one country. It did for New York and other cities worldwide.

Here are some famous examples.

Statue of Liberty (New York)

Christ The Redeemer (Rio De Janeiro)

Tien Tan Buddha (Hong Kong)

The Great Buddha (Kamakura, Japan)

Golden Maitreya (Beopjusa, South Korea)

What happened to the Bamiyan Buddhas was absolutely deplorable. It even sickens me further to know that the destruction was done during this decade.

The Statue of Liberty in New York has to be one of the greatest statues in the world because everyone recognizes her as a sign of Freedom when she was the one who greeted so many immigrants from war torn and famine ridden Europe. She also beat the Marshmallow man in Ghost Busters.
