AirAsia increases 2nd direct daily frequency for Kuala Lumpur - Tiruchirappalli from September 1st 2009

Quote:
Sepang, Kuala Lumpur: 27th July 2009 – Skytrax “World’s Best Low Cost Airline” and Asia’s biggest low-cost carrier, AirAsia announces today that it will be increasing its highly popular Kuala Lumpur -Trichy (Tiruchirappalli) route to 2nd direct daily flights commencing 1st September 2009. AirAsia currently serves the Trichy – Kuala Lumpur route with direct daily flights to Trichy departing from LCC Terminal, Kuala Lumpur on AirAsia’s spanking 180-seater Airbus A320.

Trichy situated in South India of Tamil Nadu, was the first destination in India serviced by AirAsia and since the inception on December 1st 2008, the Kuala Lumpur -Trichy route recorded an overwhelming response with consistently strong loads. To date, AirAsia has flown close to 70,000 guests in less than 8 months.

To celebrate the introduction of the 2nd Kuala Lumpur -Trichy frequency, AirAsia will be offering all-in-fare from RM129.00 (INR 1730.00). Booking period for the introduction of the 2nd frequency will begin from 28th July – 2nd August 2009 for the travel period from 1st September 2009 – 30th April 2010. Promotional seats are limited and available on first-come, first-served basis and made exclusively online via www.airasia.com and mobile.airasia.com

Kathleen Tan, Regional Head of Commercial, AirAsia Group says, “Yet again, we are proud to be servicing an underserved route and opening-up the market to the world. We had always known that the Kuala Lumpur -Trichy route will perform exceedingly well. Trichy is a highly popular and desired destination amongst the Hindus in Malaysia as it has an abundance of temples, which are popular pilgrimage sites for Hindus. And there are already increasing visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travelers from Trichy who are progressively using Kuala Lumpur as a connecting gateway to over 130 routes in ASEAN and beyond. In fact within the first month of flying to India, we have enjoyed a load factor of 100% on this route. We feel it is timely to add a 2nd frequency, which is a reinforcement of our growing interest in the Indian holiday demand,”

“Our recent initiative to remove the administration fee reiterates AirAsia’s commitment to offer big value so that everyone can fly following our move to abolish fuel surcharge last year. While our extensive network in Asia, AirAsia continues to offer cost effective direct point to point travel to Kuala Lumpur and beyond. Trichy being strategically situated and close to other tourist destinations including Chennai, tourists can also fly to many other cities in India. Moving forward, we will be expanding our route network further in India so please look out for AirAsia’s latest promotions on airasia.com.” concluded Kathleen

AirAsia through its holiday division GoHoliday, is also offering its guests Free Rooms when they book at its partner hotels via goholiday.airasia.com. Please visit the website for details.

The key here is "Underserviced route"......somehow foreign airlines seem to be getting a better picture of this than the local ones....if it were our India based airlines, all would have flown 100 times a day to Dubai and Singapore!!!

Obsolutely...

All the airlines are waiting inline to operate services to Dubai (All think, only Dubai is the city in Middle east) from Mumbai and Bangalore.. but not realising the needs and potential of Tier II centres of India.

For the past two years AIE is planning to start direct services to Kuala Lumpur and even they delayed almost 6 months for giving approval to Air asia in this route...still they are plaaning.. but.. nobody knows when..??

There are many request from Oman Air/ Singapore Airlines/Air Arabia /Bahrain air- to operatef from Trichy.. all denied permission in a view that AIE is having plan to operate this sector in future...

As per provided flight timings, AirAsia will stay in TRZ for only 30 minutes. Do you think the stay-time is enough for A320?

TIRUCHI: Air Asia has launched a “Big Sale” promotional offer under which customers are offered fare as low as Rs.1190 (one-way) on the Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur sector.

The major regional promotion with an as many as three million seats on offer is also applicable for Air Asia’s domestic and international destinations from its eight hubs in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok, Jakarta, Bali and Bandung. The fare is made available on over 130 routes, including the Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur sector.

The offer would also available on Air Asia’s recently introduced services to Colombo, Taipei and London.

“This Big Sale promises to be the sale of the year for Air Asia. It is even better than the free seats offered in the past as guests now save on administration fees and fuel surcharges as we have abolished both. Guests can now enjoy greater savings from 50 to 70 per cent,” said Kathleen Tan, Regional Head of Commercial, Air Asia Group, in a Press release. For instance, under the previous ‘Free Seat’ offer, customers had to pay Rs.1,730 for Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur and now they will have to pay only Rs.1,190, she said.

Bookings under the “Big Sale” campaign for the domestic sectors will be open till August 16 for the travel period between January 11, 2010 and July 31, 2010. The promotional seats are limited and available on first-come-first-served basis and made exclusively online via www.airasia.com and mobile.airasia.com

Air Asia has also launched value added offers on hotel deals, under Go Holiday at goholiday.airasia.com, the release added.
