Go and look at the planning documents online, it's all there for you to look at.

The landscaping of the square has been scaled back quite a lot since the initial renders, I'm quite disappointed, but that doesn't really surprise me when such a fuss was made about it in the first place.

The landscaping will be subject to a separate planning application - this includes the landscaping on the building itself, as well as the landscaping of the square. So the render of the amphitheatre with the tree isn't entirely accurate.

in my opinion, this show the strength of building which step back from street in still having an impact but lessening their dominance on the streetscape (or in this case square-scape)
There are some aspects which really like about the new library, but I think this is the poorest image. I really can't agree that it sits comfortably behind Baskerville from this angle. Overshadows a fine civic building and looks like an incinerator with the "chimney".

not at all, a building can dominate an area as well as respecting its surrounindings... its all about over-domination and has a building which will inevitably have a massive impact on its surroundings and dominate the area made a suitable acknowledgment of its surrounding context and respecting any sensitive buildings.

I'm not against the principle of the building being taller than BaskerVilla but just don't think the design is elegant enough or complimentary when viewed from that angle.

In fact it looks a little too similar to the Copthorne monstrosity.

I think the wheel is around for another 6 months, so as long as the kids don't scratch the hell out of glass in the pods, we should be able to get some good construction progress photos from up there.

Bit of insider knowledge. The new 300 seater auditorium that's being added to the rep as part of this development will be amalgamated with the library theatre. They're just figuring out how to brand it. Think it might be sponsored by someone.

They themselves havent decided yet. Apparently they challenged a load of IT brands to come up with proposals for a high tec auditorium. They were quite vague on it and I didnt get any more than that. Sounded interesting tho.

They seemed a little concerned about its proposed function tho. It's going to be hired out to anyone who wants it (as the Library Theatre is now) so they won't have creative control over everything thats going on under their brand name (hence the rebranding I suppose).

It occurs to me that the top story of the multi story car park behind this site would be a good place to take photos of at least half the site from. Are any of our regular forum photographers willing to brave a trip up there for an update?
