Boy am I glad they actually chose to do something with that facade, really well done texturing. It could've been all flat glass and I'd be lamenting the loss of the view of Nauru house more.

The offsetting of the feature facade from the main structure is somewhat of a disappointment in my book.

From a distance, as shown from rodohert’s magnificent wide-angle long-shots, it appears as if the taller structure is the only high-rise entity, with closer inspection revealing the offset feature facade.

Even from rodohert’s southern photo, the feature facade could easily be interpreted as being a separate tower again. This, no doubt was the intention of the architects, to help avoid the otherwise apparent ‘massing’ of the structure. Success in one regard, possibly. But I can’t help but think that the presence of the tower could have been enhanced (partly) by simply extending the feature facade to the full height of the main tower.

I’m totally rapt that the southern aspect has wiped out the view of Nauru House (80 Collins Street Nth), but am not entirely content with the final result.

Collins Place: Not so much a makeover as a decent scrub, it's looking grimy.
Hyatt: Keep the glass but ffs get rid of that hideous paint colour
Casselden: this one needs the full makeover
Wesley Place: I had no idea how dark and imposing it is.
80 Collins: I know some think its too close to Nauru House but from this angle its great - pulls together all the other towers at that end and closes a gap in the density (which I love)

1 Spring Street.....

We’d pull it down and start again if it wasn’t for the Heritage mob wanting to savour a piece of Harry Seidler memorabilia.

Off topic but I love the dark glass on flinders gate, hopefully they cover the blank strip!

Our big hope for a tall to cover 1 Spring Street's blank west wall was a 158m approved scheme for 32 Flinders (the car park). Then, as Decatur posted in May'18, GPT won a bidding war, so that it could dictate what happens with the views from its own building, E & Y or 8 Exhibition.

Decatur's post: " this price is confirmed at $87.1 million via a stock exchange announcement from the vendor.

The proposed scheme would block out all the views out of the east facing windows that currently look out to the tennis centre, Richmond and beyond (on an angle). The price paid reflects the loss of rental income that would be incurred at 8 Exhibition Street were that development to go ahead.

"GWOF fund manager Martin Ritchie said the deal ensured the group could preserve the views from 8 Exhibition Street and car parking for the building’s tenants". - The Australian three days ago"_

Another chance to cover the same wall was lost when a 56L proposal for the air space above the Lindrum Hotel, 26 Flinders Street was rejected in 2016. Approval was given for this 100m/30L design, but nothing has happened yet.
