Ouch!!
Kind of looks like the 30 St Mary Axe building in London; now no offence to anyone but I'm not sure why anyone would want to build a building that looked like... ermm... "that".:

Mystifyingly, there were a fair number of people who gushed over that thing when it went up. It's a bit like celebrating how classy Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are.

They built it for when Boris Johnson comes to town.

Two things caught my eye today. First, Hong Kong in 1949 in some lovely black and white home movies:

and a woman at the Bronx Zoo who jumped in the lion compound to taunt
a lion:

I would LOVE to go back in time and see Hong Kong in 1949.

19 times in 19 hours: Man holds new Grouse Grind record

Wilfrid Leblanc set the record at a challenge organized to raise funds for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation

1 by Hung Lam, on Flickr
Wilfrid Leblanc was motivated by tendinitis that prevented him from running, as well as a desire to raise funds for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation after he saw his friend's son grapple with a severe lung problem. (Brandon Crichton)

For some, a single ascent of the 2.9 kilometre-long Grouse Grind could be enough cardio for the week.

But not for Wilfrid Leblanc.

On June 21, the day of the summer solstice, the 57-year-old Vancouver-based engineer completed the hike a record-breaking 19 times — starting at 4 a.m. and ending at 10 p.m.

That's roughly one ascent every hour. The Grouse Grind's 2,830 steps has earned it the nickname mother nature's stairmaster.

"You're going up stairs for 800 metres. It's a long way and if you're doing it multiple times you better get out there and train a lot," said Leblanc, who works as an engineer in Vancouver.

Place that in San Francisco, especially in front of City Hall or somewhere in the Castro District. I can really see a lot of things with that (ahem) art piece...

Beautiful Fall day today; sunny and 16c. If I had time I'd go out to Old Mill, as I read that its that time of year again and the salmon are running on the Humber River at Old Mill. I can never figure out why they don't make it a two step jump instead of making the poor salmon go through such a difficult and exhausting obstacle course.
This video is from last year but it looks the same every year, of course:

I didn't see one salmon manage to do it. That's way too hard.
