That tower looks stunning.

And that skyscraper in Doha is a complete copy of Grollo Tower. It's a simple design but they both look exactly alike! How can they get away with that..

The same comments that were said about Burj Dubai, although Malec has just confirmed it was done as a uni project!

I didn't confirm it, that's just what I think.

I say that because the design looks like it was done without any budgetry or structural constraints, and maybe practical constraints too.
Look at the first 100 floors for example. Either you have slanty elevators or else you need three different ones to get to say, floor 70. Also the floors at the top are just ridiculously small.

Anyway, never mind all this bullshit talk, it looks great!

Culwulla - I think if we want categories of 'tallness' and we call 300m a 'supertall' then 'megatall' should be at least double that, and hypertalls... over 1km or 1.2km? It depends, I suppose. on whether you want a mathematical progression or not.

Anyway, I'm personally in favour of 600m being the minimum height for a megatall. Then again, given that we've had structures above 500m for several decades... I would go so far as to say that 600m ought to be 'super-tall' or 'super-skyscraper' and 1km for 'mega-tall' or 'mega-skyscraper'. Then we would use the 300m mark merely to distinguish the 'meh' from the 'interesting'. I think from architectural, engineering and financial standpoints that 300m is just no big deal any more. It's just where stuff *starts* to get interesting...

It's early days now, we're really only in the dawn of the age of such massive projects, I think perhaps we ought to look more to the future when choosing our boundary definitions, than what's under-construction or actively proposed now.

Just my worth.

Cheers!

supertalls maybe insignificant from a financialpoint of view, and not too much of a big deal from an engineering perspective, but architecture has nothing to do with height. Big buildings can make some architecture look better, but a good looking building certainly doesn't neccesarily have to be huge.

The Tokyo Sky Tree is certainly going very fast.
I decided to put it into Christchurch to compare, then realised how insignificant Christchurch's buildings are.

Seoul is impressively bullish, although it is often said that these projects are more of a dream than reality.

In any case, I wish them luck in getting at least a few 100+ storey buildings up.

I think they (South Korea) just posted something like 4% growth in the 2nd quarter. They're doing very well. Some of the projects stand a chance if they can sustain that.

Seoul is a damn impressive city. But still has many areas that need urban renewal.
The koreans are very bullish recently, and are doing well for themselves.

Could it get anymore hideous?

Everything about it is foul, the base is revoltingly massive, and the bimorphic design intent there does not lend itself to the straight geometric lines of the tower. Ugly in all respects.
