The current state of Whitefriargate:

Between Beverley Gate and M&S, the only empty unit is currently being fitted out as a new gaming store. Between M&S and Boots though, I counted 10 empty stores, nine of which are on the south side. Plus New Look will be closing soon, and a discount store is currently being fitted out for opening. Between Boots and the other end, there are five empties with a new vape shop and Help for Heroes shop recently opened, and another vape shop/discount store being kitted out. So the main problem is in the middle and it's mostly with the shops on the Trinity House side.

As someone has pointed out before, it's still busy down there and shops are still opening up (agreed nothing exciting) but I don't think the situation is as dire as some are making out.

Very interesting in isolation. Though with Hull’s recent retail failings I’m certainly very sceptical.

“Mixed retail and leisure” in reality seems to mean no good shops and bowling...

There'll be a gym with its own cafe and tuck shop. The majority, if not all of the building above the ground floor will become flats i reckon.

Tommy Hilfiger is set to open a pop up shop in PQ along the lines of the Jack Wills store that opened a while ago, then chose to open up permanently in Beverley. Hopefully if the pop up is a sucess they wont do the same.

I imagine it will just go to Beverly.

We don’t have a single other designer brand single store in the city apart from maybe Doc Martin, whereas Beverly for some reason has several.
