J&K state housing policy for economically weaker sections

Jammu, Feb 18: The Jammu and Kashmir government will announce a comprehensive housing policy for economically weaker sections of the society.
This was stated by the Minister for Urban development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora, while replying to the debate on demand of grants for the departments under his charge in the Legislative Assembly this afternoon.
Govt started construction of housing flats.
"To provide affordable housing facilities to the people in two capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir and major towns, the government has started construction of a chain of housing flats," he said.
One such colony named Gulposh is being developed in Bemina in Srinagar whereas three flat type housing colonies are being constructed in Muthi and Gandhi Nagar in Jammu, the minister added.
In view of scarcity of land in the two cities, he said the government has decided to construct high-rise housing colonies for low income groups at affordable prices.

The minister also said that a proposal for construction of multi-level parking at General Bus Stand in Jammu, which is estimated to cost Rs 130 crore, has been finalised and tenders have been invited.
Construction work of 1015 lanes, surface drains, at the cost of Rs 18 crore, is under execution, he added.
