This overpass isn't very stable when people are walking over it so it's hard to take long exposure photos in perfect focus....

Fujiyoshida 富士吉田市

This is the first day of my two week JR Rail Pass. I'm still based in Shinjuku but using this final day there to travel to Chureito Pagoda (忠霊塔) and then onto Kawaguchiko, both very popular during sakura season. Firstly though, Chureito Pagoda. The journey here is a two hour one via two trains, an early morning ride on the Chuo Line Limited Express (Super Azusa) to Otsuki Station followed by the Fujikyuko Line to Shimoyoshida Station. It's then a 20 minute walk from the station to the pagoda.....

It's a perfect day for viewing Fuji....

This is the Arakura Sengen Shrine, the main complex which hosts the pagoda

Still some residual snow from the winter. In fact it was the first time I had ever touched snow in my life. I was surprised there was snow around as I was walking around in a t-shirt!

Lake Kawaguchiko 河口湖

2nd largest of the Fuji Five Lakes system, this is the location famous for the photos of Fuji framed by cherry blossoms which meant of course that it had to go on the itinerary

There are several colour coded bus loops you can choose from - red, blue, green or brown....

Kyoto 京都

Lesson: always hold onto your $600 JR Rail pass as if it were your entire life you are carrying around in your pocket!

After returning from Lake Kawaguchiko, the first day of my two week JR Pass, I got back to my hotel and readied myself for a night in Akabane. But it wasn't long before I realised that I had lost my JR Pass, I looked absolutely everywhere in my hotel room, then retraced my footsteps from Shinjuku Station to the hotel, looking franticly for my pass, but it was gone. I had mindlessly dropped it somewhere and was furious with myself. I called around trying to find out if I could get it replaced but unfortunately they don't allow that, if you lose it, that's it, you have to buy a new one. $600 down the drain! I had wasted a whole night trying to locate it then get it replaced as I had to somehow get to Kyoto early the next morning. I didn't sleep well that night

The next morning I made a half hearted decision to ask around one more time as I had an hour or so to kill before the Travel Service Center (where I could buy a new pass) would open. I ended up at the JR Ticket Office in a last ditch effort, the guy I spoke to went out back to make a phone call, he was taking so long I was about to impatiently walk out when he returned and told me he had located my pass! The relief was impalpable, I couldn't believe my luck. Some very kind person had found it and handed it in. Thank you Japan!

Onto Kyoto. First stop today is the Toji Temple. It's not far from my hotel so I decided to walk there...

Wow very fortunate indeed. Did they replace it or you manage to collect the pass from the place it was returned to.
