Hi,
I'm from Sri Lanka and I think it'll be great for a country like Bangladesh if they build a megatall tower like this. Most people hear about BH as poor, backward country with floods, poverty, India's lacky boy and migrant workers to middle east. Now situation is slowly changing and we hear about micro banking and garment industry taking off. This tower will be a shock to the world and bring some spotlight. It will also be a source of pride to Bangladeshis and boost their moral. More projects and investments will also come and happen once they see successful projects like this.

Good luck to Dhaka. The modern father of skyscrapers is from here. I hope it gets built in his memory.

Does Bangladesh really need this building? They do not have the money to build this. It will be a debt trap and the Chinese are sure to take advantage if this given the proximity to India.
Countries which have done this type of development have done so with their own money to show case their wealth and power.
Do they have the necessary support infrastructure to make this sustainable? Fire Department, power and other utility supplies? transport network?

The design itself has similarities with Burj Al-Khalifa, except the edges are sharper in this one. Not a wise decision. Besides helipads cannot be situated like it is shown in the renderings. You don't need intermediate helipads, one on teh top is more than adequate.
intermediate helipads are not practical as shown as they are too close to the facade.
Also help pads need a helipad lift. How do you install this for the intermediate helipads.

Who is the Architect?

I feel weird when I see such a huge tower proposed for places like Dhaka. But then again, the thread title says " vision " this tower if done could enviosen the population to gain self esteem and reshape its society and such to the 21st century. If you look back in 1931 when the ESB was opened, it looked out of place too, and now it is a part of something bigger.

You can be sure that most the Megatall Projects in this section won't get build.

PowerPac makes payment to Rajuk for ‘Iconic Tower’ land in Purbachal
http://old.unb.com.bd/bangladesh-new...urbachal/76669
Dhaka, July 30 (UNB) - PowerPac Holdings Ltd has made its payment to Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkhya (Rajuk) for allotment of 100 acres of land at central business district (CBD) area in the sector 19 of Purbachal New Town Project.

PowerPac Holdings’ managing director Ron Haque Sikder and director and COO Syed Qamrul Islam handed over a pay order to the Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain at his ministry on Monday while Rajuk chairman Abdur Rahman was present on the occasion, said press release of the company.

The payment is 10 percent of the total value of the land which was paid as per terms and condition of the Rajuk’s project.

The Rajuk allotted the land to the company and its technical partner Kajima Corporation of Japan for development of ‘Iconic Tower’ with 100-142 storied building under public-private partnership (PPP). The building will have accommodation for both commercial and administrative offices.

Rajuk invited tender for leasing out 100 acres of land on July 17 last year and PowerPac Holdings won the project to develop the country’s largest infrastructure under PPP.

PowerPac is a concern of Sikder Group of Bangladesh while Kajima Corporation is a Japan-based construction company.

New design chosen

The Masterplan

They have chosen Kajima for this megatall despite the fact that Kajima has no experience in megatall construction. I have been in touch with CSCEC and Broad Sustainable Buildings both of which has experience in megatall buildings and has shown interest in this megatall project. Unfortunately we couldn't find local partners to partner with us. Please contact us if you would like to partner with us and help realise this project with more credible partners.

Good to see there's progress, do we know when construction is expected to commence and an estimated date of completion?

On a surface level, it does make sense. Dhaka is like extremely densely populated, so a megatall tower would fit in well for the area.

On the other hand; the nation has many economic and societal problems that make this nothing more than a pipe dream.

The Masterplan has been updated with more realistic height, floor count and appointed with world class architecture and construction firms.
