Excellent overall, just disappointing the retail and food offerings. Maybe down the track.

Brisbane seems to ignore any upstairs retail and food outlets. Just look at QP, Wintergarden and the Myer Centre and how poorly those upper levels have performed in the past. I've a feeling those large restaurants on the second level of 300 George may struggle.

There is a roof between the W and the resi building that looks awful and supported by black columns. I imagine it's a safety device to protect the driveway/ drop off on North Quay. Please tell me this is this being removed after the whole project is completed?

It's not permanent. Went up when The One started construction.

Melbourne Central is (or at least was when I was in Melbourne in 2010, not sure if its changed for the worse since then) an example of how you make upper floor dining actually work and get customers.

Melbourne Central is a bit different in that the air bridges between it and Emporium (and through to Myer and David Jones) work to create a fairly major thoroughfare on upper levels. Brisbane kind of has an equivalent in the Myer Centre's Level A, Level E and Level Q, which are all accessible from street level and serve as access points to the QSBS underneath.

I agree Bri Bri. Look at 20 years ago Broadway on the Mall. The food place had to shift downstairs eventually and Harvey Norman went up there. Shame too I liked that upstairs eatery.

We have this debate on SSC and I tend to believe upstairs things don't work. I've seen it in Westfield in Sydney. Queens Plaza, the new cafe seems to be doing well but it's a female paradise up there, although I admit I buy Aseop stuff now and then lol.

I am not saying they may not work but to me people are lazy and have no attention so they avoid or spend less time in upstairs things. Of course it could be layout, Chermside does not have that issue as much, and in Sydney Muji is tucked away but people will go up to the level it is on.

Maybe this project was not meant for retail, maybe having the apartments and next year the office tower may help with keeping them going. Edwards and Co or Will Valour could go elsewhere. Who knows, but surely W would want to keep one eating place open. Things might change.

I noticed yesterday that the resi's glass was very transparent in the arvo from 3.30-4.30 pm from the bicentennial pathway. The office glass was not. It looked great. I hope the resi glass doesn't end up being patchy looking from use of shades.

Has anyone seen the changed lighting on the W Hotel close up? I've noticed for some time that it is changed but I've only seen it on the ch 7 news backdrop. There is two lots of lighting strips on the southern side (dunno about the nth/western side. Also there are new muted larger patterns on the souther side, both one on the George St side and one on the river side.

I can't wait to see what ends up happening with the top of the office. I just know that all of my favorite photographers feel the same way.

I'd also love for somebody who might just happen to be walking past the W hotel at night (after 7 Pm) to take a pic of the lighting. I'm absolutely certain the position of the lighting has been changed and/or new lighting installed.

For some reason I can't stop my stupid finger from pointing at Aussie. I know he works hard........but I'd be ever so grateful to anyone who happens to go into oblige mode. Hahaha.

W lighting seems to be back to original on ch 7 news backdrop. Maybe it was for River Festival or maybe it's my brain.

While the Resi tower is pretty boring, the development as a whole is so good for the skyline.

With glass like that, I don't find the resi tower boring at all.

I think you can describe it as 'conservative' but most of Brisbane is. We are starting to get more adventurous building design though, 443 Queen, 66 Hope, The Standard, Queens Wharf Sky Deck are a few that come to mind.
