south route: 2 borders, bulgarian vignette, toll bridge Calafat Vidin, scenic route
north route: more motorway in Romania.
middle route: is a little bit complicate in Ro.
my advise: two different round-trip routes

I suggest northern route - most motorways and easiest crossing of mountains.

There is one road tax for all road types, fee payable here: https://www.roviniete.ro/en/info/Rovinieta-online

It really depends. If you are ready to add some 4 hours of driving but do some awesome sightseeing on the way, then neither of your routes.

Also no bridge fee on this route.

Since you travel in December (if I understood right), I also think the northern route, of your three variants, would be the best.

LE: for road quality, you can also check the map inside the very first post of this thread.

Viamichelin gives a lot longer journey times between Kragujevac and Brașov (11 hours).
Given that you also have small children and you don't know the roads...Good luck !

Going on the northern side of Carpathian Mountains makes it less likely to encounter difficult roads because of winter conditions. Also the itinerary is more direct and the landscape more beautiful.

Most likely the times there (in Google maps) are given without any trafic... otherwise, I also advise @Taxi.driver.KG to have in mind that the jurney will take longer than estimated on GM.

Hallo guys, me and my family going to trip to Oradea. We will have lunch in Sibiu. Can you please help me about route. Which is the best to come from Ruse, Bulgaria?
A. Giurgiu - Pitesti - Sebes
B. Giurgiu - Brasov - Sebes
------
C. Sebes - Kluj-Napoca - Oradea
D. Sebes - Deva - Oradea
I prefer B+C => Road Quality and safety, no TIR traffic in the Carpathians.
I look forward to other alternatives

For the first part I prefer A. You have motorway between Bucharest and Pitesti and then from Sibiu to Sebes. Also, you will avoid important traffic jams that occur around Brasov (Prahova Valley). People from Bucharest prefer this route when travelling to Transilvania in order to avoid Prahova Valley.

For the second part, I would go for C, for the same reason: more motorway, so safer travelling.

Good luck!

@blackbart: well, that's a really long trip. Keep in mind that in august the roads in Romania are pretty crowded, much more than usual congestion. So don't be surprise if there will be congestion, specially between Pitesti and Sibiu and Sebes and Aiud.

Hopefully you are using waze or other navigator solution in order to determine step by step the best route. I would only sugest this:

1. try to avoid Bucharest ring, it's a real disgrace. From Giurgiu to A1 (Vanatorii Mici I/C) you should consider the route given by Gmaps here

2. The D version should look like this (if you should choose this one). It's a little more complicated and with mixed road surface quality, but doable as long as you set waze for that. You have to avoid area on DN76 between Varfurile and Beius.

3. If you have time and energy more more scenery routes (which should be also less congested, but not faster) you could choose

E. Ruse - Craiova - Deva - Oradea (maybe lunch in Targu Jiu, visiting Brancusi complex, or in Deva)

or

F. Ruse - Sibiu - Alba Iulia - apuseni mountains - Oradea which should help you avoid the usual congestion between Alba Iulia and Aiud and visit Apuseni mountain region.

So, i also saw option G: https://www.google.bg/maps/dir/Русе/...!3e0!5i2?hl=bg
But this is my choice, We have 2 nights in Oradea and one in Sighisoara:
Ruse-Sibiu-Hunedoara-Oradea-Sighișoara-Ruse

Thank you!

Hunedoara County is so rich in hystorical sites. Try not to be in hurry there, eventually book one night at Cincis Lake for example, or near Deva.

Just to keep in mind: 2 ancient capitals (Sarmizegetusa Regia and Sarmizegetusa Ulpia Traiana), castles (Corvini, Cetatea Deva, Bethlen Castle, also in Deva...with the richest treasure of daco-roman artefacts), incredible scenery (lake Cincis, magical gardens of Banpotoc, awesome lakes and pikes of Retezat).

Is road Cetate (Dolj) - Craiova in good condition? Is it good alternative to road Vidin - Craiova (e79)? Thank you
