Looks like the temporary Sainsburys store is going to be gone a long time before the new one opens. Work on NLE means it will have to shut in February. Source: https://twitter.com/SW8Guy/status/540573003013447680

Or to put it in more exciting terms, work on the NLE begins in February.

Nice!

However this means the end of the Kennington loop. However minor details aside a much needed tube extension is going ahead , will the works for the northern have its own thread ?

There's one in the Transport forum, but maybe a London forum thread for the stations might be an idea.

Do you think that's the core for the second highest tower towards the bottom of your photo? Looks like it's in the right place, but has a bit of an odd shape to it so I'm not sure. I'll try to take a photo from the Wandsworth Road tomorrow, I haven't been down there since early December.

Not sure either - I hadn't really paid any attention to that part - good spot

The tower is an odd shape itself isn't it?

Speaking of Wandsworth Road -- you'll know this already, it's not too clear on the photo, but the 'first floor' of the main construction (middle/left) is level with Wandsworth Road. So the 2 storeys built is only 1 storey above ground. What's underneath? Car parking?

At the moment there's a portakabin type of building with an entrance to Wandsworth Road, suspended over the "pit" on two stilts at the back, looks most precarious from the train, I'm guessing it's a marketing suite and the precariousness is masked from inside?

There is a marketing suite, but I can't tell if it's what you are referring to as I've only seen it from street level. I don't think it would be in this photo based on it's location. If construction is progressing this fast I wouldn't be surprised if the new store oepned in about a years time.

Man, this area is changing so fast.

I recall that 8 years ago, each Friday night I would wander down from my flat in St George's Wharf to the now demolished Sainsbury's to buy cheap Aussie booze and on my way I would look around at the frankly quite deserted streets of Nine Elms caused by its semi industrial character.

Wont be like that much longer...not complaining mind, just musing on London's incredible capacity to remodel itself in such short time frames. It hardly has time to catch its breath before it launches into another multi billion pound redevelopment frenzy.

Did you get a shot of Sky Gardens at all? How is that progressing? I was hoping Cantideck was going to post some photos of it earlier when they made a random unrelated post in the thread

I dont remember seeing anything of substance/above ground

I was just wondering about the ticket hall and whether tunnelling for the Northern Line extension had commenced and how this all fits into the site. Anyone know any more?

At present the ticket hall for the nine elms stations is where the temporary sainsburys is right now , I am sure someone with more time on thier hands can find the diagrams of where the lines will go in relation to thier surroundings. Perhaps it is more of a question to ask on the transport forum , as someone is bound to have more techinal knowledge than I do.

Nothing even seems to have been submitted to Lambeth planning, but I'm not even sure if it needs to be if there's a parliamentary act for the construction - someone with more knowledge of this might want to clarify.

Well I promised a photo, but sadly the quality is awful as I only had my phone and it had already gone dark. Basically two complete above ground floors now, and some scaffolding indicating start on the third (2nd floor in British terminology).
