145-year-old Jersey City church to become condo complex

The Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey had plans to demolish the building before preservationists convinced the City Council in 2013 to name it a landmark.

Thirty three of the condos will be market-rate units, 14 affordable. The building was designed by Inglese Architecture + Engineering, of East Rutherford.

The church, which closed in 1994, is located on Summit Avenue a few blocks north of Grand Street.

Update - it appears 193-213 Van Vorst has started piling.
So far in the past two months, I count 5 new larger buildings that started piling:

- Hudson Exchange West
- Ellipse
- 90 Columbus
- 333 Grand
- 193-213 Van Vorst

Plus smaller ones like 28 Bright St, etc. Coupled with 33 Park ongoing construction, 795 Jersey Ave, and the nearing starts of One Journal Square, the second Embankment House, possibly 99 Hudson (along with whenever Journal Squared and URL's next phases start), it seems like a new phase of construction has kicked off in Jersey City.

From the past two weeks:

193-213 Van Vorst - the shots are from some distance, but this rig appears to be for the 193 Van Vorst site

144 Newark Ave, revealed

Jersey Ave/Columbus

Hyatt House

Modera Lofts

The Oakman

With 143 Second

Small park next to The One - still no progress

30 Montgomery

Nexis - that is the site of Hamilton Square South, one of Silverman's next projects.

The site has been that way since the small amphitheater on site was demolished back in the summer, so it's definitely moving slowly right now

Updates - site clearing at Marin Residences (245 Marin Blvd?), site of KRE's 17 story building

Piling at 207 Van Vorst:

144 Provost (Juan Ribbon Machine Shop - former Parlay Studios) - fenced in and ready for demolition - approved for 11 stories

There were also several excavators on the site of Hamilton Square South, but it was too dark to take pictures - this may be moving now as well.

Modera Lofts

1st St

Evertrust addition

Jersey City construction from the Marin Residences site

Some smaller infill projects from earlier today:

Bay St

144 Newark Ave

141 Newark Ave

Columbus and Wayne

Wayne and Barrow

Columbus and Jersey Ave

Vito A Lofts - looks nearly complete aside from the retail base

239-249 Newark Ave - looks like piling has started. This is a 5 story building with 54 units

251 Newark Ave (the building next to it)

367 1st St - interestingly shaped building

102 Brunswick - new sign

105 Brunswick - approved for 4 stories

First St Park - almost complete

414 1st St - approved for 5 stories

397-401 3rd St

367 3rd St

129 Brunswick

124 Brunswick - approved for 5 stories. The little Eglentowicz sign means it's probably coming down soon

Recently renovated building on 2nd St next to the recently renovated Latin Lounge

415 Monmouth - supposed to be remodeled into 4 stories, 4 units with retail

429 Monmouth

349 4th St

377 5th St

375 5th St - the neighborhood is fighting against a 5 story building proposal here

355 5th St

340 5th St

322 6th St - this was sitting in the foundation stage for a while but suddenly shot up

95 Coles

361 Newark Ave - I really have no idea what they are doing here. Other than the shape it seems to look nothing like the render

25-27 Division St - if plans are the same, I believe this is supposed to be combined with the building next to it to make a 5 story, 10 unit building

374 7th - now known as Three 7 Four Seventh

Near the corner of Brunswick and 7th - not sure if this is just a garage addition or something else

323 7th St

Monmouth St construction

320.5 7th St

Hamilton Square South

Marin Residences

Hamilton House

Embankment House

2nd Embankment House site getting ready

Cast Iron Lofts 2

Bluestone Holdings development (is it called Soho West?)

Site of the second building

The...Soho West area

212 7th St

Erie St Flats (68 Erie St)

220 3rd St

212 3rd St

The Oakman

I wasn't sure if this was the right thread since it's mostly larger projects but I couldn't find a thread focused on all large projects.

I wish they would make a map covering the rest of the city and neighboring Hoboken.

Well, this seems as good a time as any to share this:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?m...8U&usp=sharing

A map I've been working on. This is how I navigate when traveling to the smaller projects. Keep in mind that it's still a work in progress, and I use the term "renovation" loosely (if I see scaffolding, it's a renovation )

EDIT: Sorry, a little bit of a guide:

Red = under construction
Orange = Excavation or demolition
Yellow = proposed or approved
Grey = stale project
Green = academic, cultural, park, etc. under construction
Light green = academic, park, etc. planned
Brown = complete project
Light brown = complete renovation

The dates on the projects are the last date I visited those sites.

Enjoy and feel free to lend any suggestions or corrections. NYC, Hoboken, Bayonne, etc are all incomplete things I'm working on so I may remove them from the map for now.

Wow , I know user Towerpower was going to make a static map , but this one is incredible. Can you create a separate thread for Jersey City & NJ Gold Coast development map and i'll sticky it.
