This thread makes me realize what Spain has missed in terms of historical documentary evidences for not having developed a proper landscape painting tradition prior to the 19th c...

Madrid is an exception to that, since the court of the Bourbons employed a number of foreign painters, like Italian Antonio Joli, who introduced their original genres, but we miss images for the rest of the country.







The Plaza Mayor before its 18th c. remodelling:











Goya happened to practice some occasional landscape painting too.

I can't find any info on this question: does anyone know if Bellotto or his uncle Canaletto ever suggested or implied which of the cities they painted was their favorite in terms of over cityscape beauty?
