Looks worse than what's already there.

I think it's a shame that Croydon is losing its 60s architecture, even though it might seem dire, it's a really important part of its history.

It's certainly a bit of a beast and I do worry that the quality of the cladding will be on the naff side. Many of the resi tower proposals for Croydon look similar to some of what's gone up in E&C over the past year and some of that is patchy, quality-wise. However, this area badly needs some TLC - pretty much the whole of Park St is diabolical.

The tower and whole park St precinct is owned by Delancey. There's early plans for the whole area floating around but they seem to be in no hurry to do anything.

That Art Deco building next door looks quite nice.

I think it's been disused for years - probably the last 15 or so??? I'm not sure. The Blue Orchid club used to be there.

Its unlikely most people in Croydon or elsewhere in south London would concur with you.

When I was young and taking trains from the south coast to central London, I used to look forward to seeing the cluster of high rises at East Croydon. Today though, these do not look so good, and having got to know East Croydon better, I have become quite disillusioned by the aesthetics of the design of many of these buildings and how they related so poorly to each other at grade, or with the older surrounding buildings and neighbourhoods. Croydon deserves better that what it has and should focus on high quality public spaces as well as better architecture and a better railway station. I feel that generally the newer buildings can only be better than those of the past, though I hope the Seifert designed tower is listed one day.

I love the buildings in Croydon, but mainly because I don't live there and I like taking pictures of buildings

There's really no need for this. More 60s architecture should be listed in London, and this one has nice materials already. It has brick, the glass is still good, stone columns. Just convert the interior spaces.

Shame to loose this one. IMHO this one of the best 60's towers in Croydon. This along with No. 1 Croydon, Lunar house and Apollo house should be kept.

Agreed some of them land terribly, but that can be fixed.

Chinese developer buys Nestlé Tower and surrounding sites in UK debut
Property Week
March 2017
Quote:
Chinese developer R&F Properties has bought the iconic Nestlé Tower in Croydon and surrounding development sites for a price believed to be just under £60m, marking its debut buy in European real estate, Property Week can reveal.

The developer purchased the 200,000 sq ft tower and the 250,000 sq ft St George’s Walk development site – including the listed Segas House – from Minerva, which is owned by funds advised by Delancey and Ares Property Partners.

In total, the purchased sites have development proposals for more than 1,000 residential units: 288 in the former Nestlé offices, which have planning permission, and around 800 units at St George’s Walk.

The estimated development value of the units is around £500m.

They've started putting scaffolding up around the base.

This is the latest rendering of this scheme which has actually started on site.

They had already stripped the first couple of floors down to the concrete plates and they had commenced wrapping the building.

They should be starting demo of the rest of the old complex next year and are planning a 50 floor tower. That is if they can convince Croydon planned who would prefer yet another 30 floor block. Don't they know variety is the spice of life.

By the rest of the complex are you referring to this?

And the site is now being scoped for the development of up to 900 resi units and a new town square. We can expect more towers here.

I love some of the ideas about queens square, I really hope it delivers..

I’m still pretty unconvinced by the refreshed St. George’s house though
