Nice! A breeze of freshness in the windy city.

Still just can't get with those artless Vista Towers; like lazily drawn lines.

By contrast, this, and every other tower going up is strongly defined and/or elegantly contoured. Here's to hoping this giant joins the rest.

I love the building, wish it could be around 1800ft so Chicago has something taller than the Sears Tower.

Can't wait for more news on this.

I'm hoping Golub & Co followed through and submitted the project for approval. Tribune could use a big brother.

a user over at SSP said to expect this to be in the 1250-1400' range, so mentally prepare yourselves for a possible height chop.

Meanwhile, a look at the conversion. In this shot you can see the hoist.

Not really that bad... and not uncommon for projects like this

Sounds like it would be around 400 meters which would be an awesome addition

I wonder how far along in the approval process this is. Or if they're waiting until after the renovation.

Got the China architectural vibe as well but the height and location will really add some muscle to the chicago skyline from many angles. This is awesome and I hope the height eclipses Trump Tower, not for any other reason other than it will spit in the face of a spire.
A nice, if overly futuristic, 1422ft roofline should make a dramatic impact and shine like crazy in sunsets. Make it happen!

I believe that the plan is still to wait until after the three year conversion before going forward with any approvals or presentations. We are looking at 3-5 years before this building is breaking ground which is all the time in the world for being canceled or reduced to something much smaller.

One Chicago Square is the most impactful project Chicago will have to look forward to for quite a while. I hoped NY's supertall boom would trickle down to Chicago but only a couple are even proposed. Developers here are primarily pumping out econoboxes with the odd decent looking box here and there.

What about 400LSD, Parcel I or NEMA II?

If that were true that'd be tragic. Who says they won't increase the height in that time?

You're probably right, given Chicago's track record I'm not staying too optimistic but the city could use some more supertalls to stay competitive.

This article (from August) states if approved, it could start later this year (although I wouldn't get my hopes up), hopefully we'll find out more next year. 3-5 seems like a bit of a stretch.

Quote:
Work to redevelop Tribune Tower is already underway, and major demolition work is set to begin this month, Golub said. The last tenant, bar and restaurant Howells & Hood, will close by Sept. 30, Golub said.

Construction on the new 1,422-foot-high skyscraper, if approved, could begin in late 2019. It would have a 200-room hotel, 439 rental apartments and 125 condos.

Golub and CIM have continued meeting with community groups and Ald. Brendan Reilly, 42nd, and plan to submit their planned development to the Chicago Plan Commission in September, Golub said.

In their defense, the WV towers depend heavily on the clean lines of the cladding, and the surface finish of the glass. Both of which are missing from this crude render.

The final tower, in the real world, reflecting the city etc, looks really nice imo.
