In many cases I prefer the before. That was genuine and had soul. The after looks too often like the architecture in the Venetian casino in Macau.

Don't worry they will get this "soul" back in a matter of 30-50 years, anyway the proportions are probably still way better than in some chinese casino.

Most renovations will look a bit "sterile", just like new buildings. Give it a bit time and patina.

The problem with many buildings especially in the former commie East of Europe is, that buildings were neglected for decades. So many renovations are almost like reconstructions, with many building parts and materials replaced. So it will often look like almost new buildings to the observer.
