Thast true
But nobody said, as i remember, that Germany 2006 is in danger.
It was just about some stadia.

Mediterranean, Eastern European or African cannot organize those events according to some arrogant western journalist

Its one of my biggest concern if Turkey gets the EURO 2016.

Mediterranean and Muslim and Turks. Impossble that this lazy nation can build stadiums. And why Europe etc etc

Does somebody know the schedule of works of the reconstruction of this stadium?
Works are reportedly supposed to begin in 2008 and to last till end 2011 but the schedule to find I can't.

Wow Vampiro, thanks for that! And did they solve the missunderstanding with Archasia Group? And finally given the capacity? And... the mall demolition begins tomorrow, what about demolition of the upper tier of the stadium?

There will be a new stadium project because the taiwanese company cannot built the stadium in time.

Can someone rename the city name back to Kyiv?
Also I don't see the point of using transliterated name of the stadium, just leave it "Olympic". And capacity is going to be more than 85,000. It's in the range from 90,000 and up, but it hasn't been announced it (theoretically it could be only 85k. but there's no information supporting it).

Kyiv is the official English name of the city and that's what we use on the forum.

Thanks.

So, Archasia kicked out of the tender deal. A shame from my perspective, the best design lost.
http://www.topnews.in/sports/ukraine...-stadium-22191

According to Topnews, the Kyiv stadium will now be refurbished according to a different project, one of those sent to the competition, on Thursday. I recon the main criteria will be time as it is already slightly off schedule (is it? it tends to be from what I read), not the quality of the design. In the short run (saving Euro 2012 for Kyiv) I think it might do good, but in the long run quality should be decisive.

Yep, sucks. I loved this design... but the good thing is that most proposals were of decent quality

Even if Ukraine lost Euro 2012. Germany wouldn't get a peice of it. Aparantly by 2012, poland would be able to host Euro (by it self) on these stadiums:

50+

- National football stadium (Warsaw)

- Stadium Śląsk (chorzow)

40000-50000:

- Poznan Stadium
- Baltic Arena
- Wrocław Stadium

30 000 - 40 000

- Górnika Stadium
- Legja Stadium (Warsaw)
- Stadionie Wisły (Krakow)

And maybe also Lodz and Sczecin Stadium.

..................................................................
So no country can get excited about Ukraine loosing euro. Which will not happen, because euro may always take place on a reserve venue instead of the olympic one in Kiev.

If Poland decides that it doesn't want to host Euro with Ukraine, it's going to be Ukraine alone.

^ Riiiiiiight...But as far as I know Uefa? and many many other people/organizations/newspapers are giving a clear signal that its almost impossible build/modernize ...hm..everything? in Ukraine...I mean raiilways, motorways, hotels etc... Ukraine is waaaay behind w.europe and c-e europe...But, it's a typical situation before big/biggest tournament, (look Greece)...In my very personal opinion, E2012 (in Pol and Ukr for sure) will be exaclly the same like E2008/04, or...even much more exciting/entertaining...

@ masterpaul:

that's a simple calculation. if the problems were only about the stadia, they could rather easily be solved. It's the (lack of) infrastructure that makes the officials really ponder..
by the way: i think we are beyond the point of poland and ukraine deciding if to host euro 2012 or not. It's up to the UEFA now and i reckon the tournament in those two countries is in direct jeopardy.

You like to get mocked, don't you? It's obvious we wouldn't be able to host it alone, stadiums don't even have to be the case.

don't get carried away, there is no question of that kind here, only some... seperated individuals have their theories, like everywhere.

Oh, Platini called you last night? what organizations (apart from those that would benefit from it and have interest in taking Euro away) and people (apart from daydreamers like Masterpaul, etc.) do you mean?

Why don't we all just wait? Last thing we need is a struggle between the host nations...

The hotels ARE being built in every host and reserve city, they won't be the problem, the airports ARE being upgraded, but even if they are not up to western European standards, what's the worst that can happen, western Europeans are going to suffer by looking at not so modern airports?

The roads, same thing, some roads are of decent quality, some are being upgraded, if not everything can be converted to western European standards in time, big deal, it'll be an adventure for westerners to drive on our roads without all the EU standard extra shiny lines it's not like they won't be able to get somewhere because the exit from a highway is not up to standards of Switzerland.

The two large reserve stadiums are UNDER CONSTRUCTION, Odesa and Kharkiv, so there's absolutely nothing to worry about in Ukraine regarding the stadiums. The Olympic stadium in Kyiv will probably be way behind schedule but still ready by 2012, the whole delay is due to a ******* mall in front of it and incompetence of the winning Taiwanese team. So the whole problem is clearing the mall (starts today) and choosing one of the other READY projects.

Now I hate the rebuilding project of the Kiev Stadium because the seating bowl has to be drastically altered.

Really this project was chosen? I found the information about it on the Ukrainian part of this forum, but not being good at language of the Ukrainian I cannot confirm whether it is an official decision.
