The stadium is right in the heart of the city. It is in the centre, the main street leading to the central square is 300m from stadium. Kiev central is very compact not a large feeling city at all although the suburbia of kiev is large.

It is 2 km from the main Independence Square.

Kyiv's center is quite big, about 5 by 7 km, and the stadium is within it.

Together with the Olympiastadion in Berlin, this is the best renovation/reconstruction of a stadium this size, i've seen in history.

And very impressive progress.
Looking back 7-8 months ago, we thought they are not going to make it on time . And today they are already working on the cladding and the roof. https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...&postcount=825

I have to say, I hated this design. I thought the Taiwanese proposal was more modern. But this is turning out to be beautiful. I'm realizing that the decision to go with this particular reconstruction is much more respectful to the stadium and fits perfectly with the architecture of the neighborhood. I'm glad I was proven wrong.

Stabilization of Framework for NSC Olympic Roof is done

The Olympic NSC has finished the stabilization of the roof framework with 80 columns. This stabilization process is a part of preparations for the lift of nearly 1000 ton cable-stayed system.

Yet during the installation, each column was equipped with temporary struts underneath that helped to keep the column position as designed. After the installation of all the 80 columns and the locking of beams of the upper and lower rings of the framework, the first stage of the stabilization system passed. After that, the half of temporary struts which kept the columns in curved parts was removed. Another 37 struts continued to support columns in relatively flat places

However, that structure was rather stiff and did not allow the columns to drift forward and back, so it could not be used during the cable-stayed system lifting. To remove all struts and maintain the stability of the structure, 14 special stay guys with an integrated system of jacks with 50 ton capacity each were installed inside the stadium bowl.

Using stabilizing ropes, those stay guys were connected to relatively flat sections of the framework. This made it possible carry out the next stage of stabilization and remove all temporary struts of the columns. After that, we conducted a geodetic survey of the columns’ elevations and completed the stabilization of the system.

Thus, flat sections of the rings will be forcibly pulled into the stadium bowl until the end of the lifting and the fixing of the cable-stayed system. Upon completion of all steps of the roof installation, it will maintain equilibrium independently, opening and closing like a flower of lotus.

The work in other areas of the site is also humming. For safety and comfort of visitors, metal handrails are installed on the outdoor granite steps of the stadium.

Handrails are already put in place on the steps at the North Entry into the Stadium.

Also 175 (of total 910) running meters of the fencing of the concourse of the second tier stands .

A system of warm floors is now being installed in the VIP-zone. Such floors will be provided at -1 level in dressing rooms and in the mixed zone.

So waiting for big lift in the nearest days
