Looking at the virtual view of the airport,, around 80-90% may be ready/ operational in phase 2 (not phase 1) development. By the time NMIA's phase 2 will be ready, How will be CSIA??
1) Air India and/or other FSCs may get a new home in Mumbai
2) CSIA might be a hub for LCCs, few FCCs and some small business private charter planes
3) Some LCCs may balance between CSIA and NMIA
4) Few int'l flights (specially charters, budget, and some indian origin LCCs, Hajj special flights) retain at CSIA

or else, any idea or prediction.....??

Also I feel it's better to equip the RWYs of the Upcoming NMIA with grooved pavements, in order to seep out the water during heavy rains and provide more grip for the landing gears, prevent slippery of planes while landing and takeoff, since the Mumbai and other coastal areas are subjected to heavy rains and floods, an example of grooved RWY pavement below

Biased Administrators and Moderators..

Why this thread title does not have U/C (Under Construction)?

It's not the end of the world if the thread still bears (U/C) in its name. And, AFAIK, none of us pays a salary to any Admin or Mod on SSCI.

What an Entitled brat...
When an airport starts to take shape, some patterns start to appear on their SSCI threads..

A moderator has started this thread. Yet given a misleading title.

Oh boy!! Those drawings on the wall certainly look similar to the layout of NMIAl!!
And, as a personal consolation, the airside layout does look similar to the 'model' I posted... phew...

The renders look great though. Would be so cool if they manage to get that open roof structure like the renders!

Looking at the size of the terminal and the number of gates, this does not look like 10 mpa capacity terminal. It looks like it can accommodate much higher traffic.

Pretty sure this won't be completely built in the first phase. Their top priority will be to build the bare minimum to operationalise the airport

The terminal on the eastern side may be the first one coming up. Cos there is no way on earth this terminal can be build even partially in a couple of years.

Yes, quite likely. Or even a partial terminal, given it is supposed to handle only 10M initially.

The images are internally consistent. If you look, the images on the right of the dude on the white board are similar to the 1st 2 images you posted.

Whats are chances once NMIA is completed fully there would be demand from certain activist to close current CSIA and shifts all its operation towards NMIA and free all aera currently occupied by CSIA for development .............

Navi Mumbai | Navi Mumbai International Airport | U/C

It doesn’t gel well with the so called ideology of any group of activists.

Real estate developers would love it but they can’t do much as the government has entered into an agreement with MIAL for 30-35 years.

There will be an even bigger industry lobby which will not allow closure of airport even if we hypothetically assume that there is a demand for closure.

I'm gonna guess that terminal, when complete, would be a 60MPA structure. Another terminal at the east end of the field (hidden by the guy standing in front of the plans) might make up the balance 30MPA of the total target of 90MPA.

At 60 MPA, I wonder if we're looking at India's largest ever airport terminal building?? (Only Delhi's future second airport potentially stands the chance to build something bigger)

However, probably more importance may go the NMIA, when compared to CSIA, somewhere in 2030s. Or can't truly predict :-

Plus point of NMIA: 1) Has a great scope for expansion and future development (overlooking the Phase-2 construction)
Minus point: 1) Far away from the MMR, (but from older regions of mumbai, it's quite nearer compared to the north, northwest regions and existing CSIA.
2) May result in a situation where BLR and HYD suffered nearing the opening date.

Plus point of CSIA: 1) very nearer to the city (infact in the city region itself)
2) Iconic T2
Minus points: 1) Very least/ or no scope of expansion, and future development due to crowded city, public areas surrounding by
2) Operation of a single runway, lack of two parallel, or non intersecting ones (despite there are two runways, but intersect each other and crosswind)
3) Main RWY 27 located closer to one public road (probably bandra- kurla),so during takeoff, dust kicks off to the public roads and to the shops on the roadside

Only thing I would tell be it would have been BETTER if CSIA had planned for future airport expansion (like Parallel RWYs,longer RWYs,etc) very much earlier, (i.e., before 21st century)
