The Mink Mile

This emerging 2nd downtown cluster will look radically different in just a year from now. The new Four Seasons Hotel (210m), the Uptown (158 m), Crystal Blu (120 m), One Bedford (102 m), 155 Cumberland Street floor additions (89m), and Museum House (71 m) will all make in impact looking down Bloor. Then there's the lot where 1 Bloor East was to go.

Quite right. One would have to be up higher to get them all in frame though. I'm eager to see this same view 6 months from now, and 6 months after that. I'm more impressed with how this part of Toronto is developing than I am any other area. I suppose the transformation of Yorkville is more acute as there really hasn't been a significant cluster here before.

It truly is a terrific mix of buildings. As much as many criticize the ROM Crystal, it and Varsity have really lifted the visual appeal of the entire strip. It's far more engaging visually than the Bay street canyon north of Queen.

Buildings like the ROM Crystal have the power to lift an entire area and add some sophistication and interest. The Lightbox is a building with that ability although not quite as dramatic. Another example of such a building is one Skybean posted a week back of a new structure in Korea. I'd love to see something like this east of Yonge, maybe on Carlton close to Allan Gardens. That area needs a dose of modernity:
