Cathedral of La Plata - Argentina

The Cathedral of La Plata in La Plata, Argentina, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, is the 58th tallest church in the world. This Neogothic edifice is located in the geographical center of the city, facing the central square, Plaza Moreno, and the City Hall. Inspired by the European cathedrals of Amiens and Cologne, its plans were drawn by architect Ernesto Meyer under the direction of city planner Pedro Benoit. The cornerstone was laid in 1884, and it was consecrated as the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de los Dolores in 1902. The parish church, which continued undergoing works, was designated a cathedral in 1932.

Basilica of Our Lady Luján - Argentina

Province: Buenos Aires
City: Luján
Place: Basilica of Our Lady Luján

The Basilica of Luján is doubly special for Argentina: from the point of view of the architecture, is an epic neogothic temple, recently restored and with a new view of the main square who gives a bigger impact from the entrance to the city from the National Route 5. Just next to the Cathedral of La Plata, it is the biggest temple of the country. But its importance lies on the culture of Argentina itself. The building shelters the figure of Our Lady Luján, the most important icon of the country. Next to the bed on every catholic house of Argentina lies a figue of her. The Basilica is also the last stop of a massive peregrination every year. Our Lady of Luján is the patron saint of the whole country, so that tells you how important it is for the catholic argentines (most of the population).

The Potala blends seamlessly into the surroundings that it is almost a natural part of the setting.

BOROBUDUR Temple - Central Java - INDONESIA

Quote:
Borobudur is built as a single large stupa and, when viewed from above, takes the form of a giant tantric Buddhist mandala, simultaneously representing the Buddhist cosmology and the nature of mind.[65] The original foundation is a square, approximately 118 metres (387 ft) on each side. It has nine platforms, of which the lower six are square and the upper three are circular.[66] The upper platform features seventy-two small stupas surrounding one large central stupa. Each stupa is bell-shaped and pierced by numerous decorative openings. Statues of the Buddha sit inside the pierced enclosures.

A painting by G.B. Hooijer (c. 1916—1919) reconstructing the scene of Borobudur during its heyday

Prambanan Temple - Central Java - INDONESIA

Quote:
The temple compound, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia, and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu architecture, and by the towering 47-metre-high (154 ft) central building inside a large complex of individual temples.[2] Prambanan attracts many visitors from around the world.[3][4]

Liverpool: Anglican Cathedral

With a heavyly-marked Neogothic style, the Anglican Cathedral of Liverpool is probably one of the most imposing cathedrals in the world, which also dominates the view of the city thanks to its location in one of the higher hills. Built over more than 70 years, it is especially striking for the gigantism adopted in its details, especially in the interior design, with passageways and bridges that cross in the open spaces.
