Standard Madu Kelulut siap Jun depan
20 September 2016 1:15 PM

Quote:
PUTRAJAYA 20 Sept. - Standard Madu Kelulut dijangka siap dibangunkan Jun tahun depan.

- BERNAMA

Agricultural sector exports up 2.6% to RM87.8 billion in first half of 2016
23rd September, 2016

Quote:
MELAKA: The country’s agricultural sector exports rose by 2.6 per cent to RM87.8 billion in the first six months of this year compared with the corresponding period last year.

Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, said the increase was a good achievement despite the current poor world economic climate.

“A lot of economic challenges were experienced this year with several major countries like China facing economic downturn but our agricultural sector exports recorded an increase and that is a good thing.

“The higher prices of agricultural exports, such as coconuts, were one of the reasons for the increase,” he told reporters after officiating the Malaysian International Agriculture Technology Exhibition 2016 at Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh here on Thursday.

Mah said the country’s agricultural sector exports last year was valued at RM184.4 billion while the commodity product exports constituted 64.5 per cent of the sector.

“The commodity product exports rose to RM117.1 billion last year compared with RM116.5 billion in 2014. The major commodity product exports are palm oil, rubber, timber products, pepper and cocoa,” he said.

Mah said the agricultural sector was an important pillar of the national economy with a significant contribution of 8.9 per cent to the gross domestic product last year.

On the expected increase in global demand for palm oil, Mah said, Malaysia must meet it in a sustainable way via adopting technology to boost productivity of oil palm.

“If we can increase our average oil extraction rate from 20 per cent now to 24 per cent it would lead to an immediate 20 per cent increase in productivity without opening new land for oil palm plantation.

“Therefore, we have to find ways to achieve the four per cent increase. This is where the research and breakthrough findings in palm oil are needed to make sure the industry is able to meet the rising global demand,” he said. –Bernama

Mah: Ministry eyes more perks under Budget 2017 to automate commodity sector
21st September, 2016

Quote:
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities hopes the 2017 Budget would offer more incentives to automate the commodity sector, said its Minister Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

He said the ministry received requests, especially from the downstream industry, to help boost productivity and reduce dependence on foreign labour.

“The worker shortage issue is a problem for all industries in the commodity sector. For example, the rubber industry needs about 16,000 foreign workers now.

“Thus, the ministry emphasises the need to automate the sector to avoid over-dependence on foreign workers,” he said.

Mah said this after the ministry’s dialogue session with representatives of the commodity industry here on Tuesday. The two-day dialogue involves 94 associations and industries in the upstream and downstream sectors of the commodity sector.

Mah said one of the issues raised at the dialogue session was the harmonisation of the crude palm oil export rate between Malaysia and Indonesia via the Council of Palm Oil Producer Countries.

He said Malaysia and Indonesia would discuss the matter after getting feedback from industry players. Mah said the water supply issue in Selangor was raised, especially by the rubber industry players which had too many factories in the state.

“For the rubber glove industry, with exports of close to RM10 billion a year, the water supply problem would affect output.

The ministry has informed the state government of the problem,” he said.

To overcome the problem, Mah said, the ministry has also encouraged rubber-based industry players to set up factories in Kedah Rubber City.

“The 600-hectare is in the process of building the infrastructure now.

“The city in Bukit Ketapang, Padang Terap, is situated in an ideal location with many facilities for rubber industry,” he said.

Mah said the government has allocated RM300 million for the project in Budget 2016. –Bernama

Menaik taraf 12 jelapang padi
BERNAMA
29 September 2016 8:45 AM

Quote:
PASIR SALAK 29 Sept.

Malaysia to fight ‘no palm oil’ label issue in Europe
September 30, 2016, Friday

Najib Tun Razak talks to the media at Wismar yesterday on his third day official visit to Germany. The Prime Minister says Malaysia will also work with Indonesia to engage with European Union member countries to address the no palm oil label issue. — Bernama photo

Quote:
BERLIN, Germany: Malaysia is set to go all out to fight the ‘no palm oil’ label issue in the European region, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday.

“We are going to go all out in engaging with various countries (the European Union),” he told Malaysian media at the end of his three-day official visit here.

Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said Malaysia would also work with Indonesia to engage with European Union member countries to address the no palm oil label issue.

He said Malaysia cannot allow the countries to damage the prospect of Malaysia’s golden crop in the region and hence the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities and the Malaysian Palm Oil Council will work on this.

According to several reports, there are about 1,500 products with no palm oil label in France, Belgium and Italy.

Such labelling can be categorised as a non-trade barrier and a move to deny market access for palm oil.

The Prime Minister had also discussed the same issue with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in his bilateral meeting on Tuesday.

He had explained to her that Malaysia subscribes to sustainable development of the palm oil industry and there is no ‘slash and burn’ policy.

He also invited German lawmakers to see it for themselves.

Najib said Merkel had assured Malaysia that Germany has no plans to impose any tax on palm oil.

“They (Germany) will also not support any practice of no palm oil label in Germany,” said the Prime Minister. — Bernama

Modul Dadong ke seluruh negara
MUKHATAR A. RAHMAN | 05 Oktober 2016 12:14 AM

AHMAD SHABERY CHEEK bersama peserta yang terlibat projek tanaman jagung bijirin di Kampung Dadong, Kemaman, Terengganu, kelmarin.

Quote:
KEMAMAN 4 Okt.

Hadir sama Penolong Pegawai Daerah Nabawan (Pentadbiran) Djamiluddin Kamaruddin, Pengurus Besar PPK Nabawan Zulkifli Udin, Penolong Hal Ehwal Ekonomi Lembaga Lada Malaysia Elvisam Madun, ketua-ketua jabatan dan pemimpin-pemimpin masyarakat.

Govt provided incentives help uplift farmers
7th October, 2016
By ERIC BAGANG

Quote:
KOTA KINABALU: The government always strives to help the people including farmers to uplift their socio economic standard.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said this included providing various facilities and incentives such as ploughing tractors.

He said the procurement of the 52 ploughing tractors demonstrates that the state government is concern with the need to increase the logistical capacity to ensure food supply in the state continues to be secured.

“We believe that with the availability of this technology, we will be able to increase the productivity and agricultural produce further especially rice,” he said at the handing over ceremony of ploughing tractors to the Agriculture Department by MP Machinery (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at the company’s headquarters in Inanam here yesterday.

The Agriculture Department’s purchase of the machines, he said shows the state government’s commitment and initiative in addressing the shortage of ploughing tractors especially in areas out of the Jelapang Padi.

The shortage issue, he said had been brought up in the State Assembly sitting, which the government listened and took action on to fulfil the wishes of the people particularly the farmers.

Musa also said that apart from acquiring agricultural assets and upgrading the paddy fields in Kota Belud to Jelapang Padi, the relevant state and federal governments’ agencies enhance their cooperation, commitment and join force in line with the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS).

This, he said is vital in increasing food security in the state and at the same time benefiting the people particularly the farmers while giving positive impact to the state’s agricultural sector.

“It is the government’s intention to continue to drive the state’s development in all sectors including modernising the agricultural sector which is one of the cores in the state’s Halatuju in order to increase the sector’s contribution in generating sustainable economy,” he added.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin who is also Agriculture and Food Industry Minister, Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid, MP Machinery (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd managing director, Datuk Ting Huat Kiing, and Agriculture Department director, Idrus Shafie. The tractors will be operated by the Sabah Farmers Association (PPNS).

It has passed the halfway mark of the total exports of cocoa throughout 2015, when the nation recorded RM5 billion in exports to countries like the United States, China, Japan, Egypt, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

"The year end should see the total 2016 export figure to exceed last year's figures," he said.

He was speaking to the media at the launch of Malaysia Cocoa and Chocolate Day 2016 with the theme, 'Cocoa - more than words', here today. The three-day cocoa exhibition and exposition being held in MidValley Megamall shopping centre ends on Sunday.

Penjenamaan bantu industri koko Malaysia
08 Oktober 2016 12:24 AM

Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR 7 Okt.

Latif Mohmod.

SEGAMAT: The Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) on Tuesday introduced the e-licensing system to replace its existing information system to provide better access for the public to be involved in the rubber business.

Plantations Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister, Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur, said the new system allowed users to register and check the status of their own licence application.

“I hope the public will take advantage of this as they no longer need to come to our offices to register, renew, amend, cancel or appeal for licences and permits,” he told reporters at the Licensing and Quality Awareness Day in Jagoh, Johor, on Tuesday.

Datu Nasrun said he hoped all parties involved in the day’s programme understood the rules set by the MRB in maintaining the quality of rubber.

“I hope all entrepreneurs including smallholders focus on the quality of rubber to maintain Malaysia’s image as a high quality rubber producer,” he said.

Datu Nasrun said due to the fall in rubber prices, the Government introduced the Rubber Production Incentive (IPG) scheme to aid smallholders.

“With a RM200mil allocation from Budget 2016, each rubber planter was given a rubber transaction authority permit card, which entitles them to claim the difference from the current farm gate prices called Price Level Activation.

“The 21,313 rubber smallholders nationwide registered with us are enjoying this under the IPG and those who have yet to register must do so to receive the benefit,” he said.

Also present at the programme were MRB chairman Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah and MRB director-general Dr Mohd Akbar Md Said. - Bernama

MPOC to carry on seeking fair, non-discriminatory treatment for palm oil in Europe

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) will continue to urge France not to discriminate palm oil with tariff or technical trade barriers that will render it uncompetitive with other edible oils, said chairman Datuk Lee Yeow Chor.

"We continue to seek fair and non-discriminatory treatment for palm oil when compared to other vegetable oils in Europe," Lee told reporters at Palm Oil Trade Seminar held here today.

According to a study conducted by Professor Pierre Garello from the University of Aix-Marseilles, the current tax levels for vegetable oils in France are; olive oil (4.9 per cent), rapeseed oil (11.69 per cent), sunflower oil (15.79 per cent), palm oil (21.67 per cent) and soybean oil (23.64 per cent).

Since 2012, lawmakers in France have repeatedly called for tax hikes on palm oil that would add to government coffers and aim to reduce palm oil consumption. Four months ago, France’s Secretary of State for Biodiversity Barbara Pompili had reportedly said additional tax on palm oil will be raised in the next Parliament session.

Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, in his recent meeting with Pompili in Paris had highlighted to lawmakers there that palm oil exports is vital to Malaysia’s economy. “There are more than a million people’s livelihoods and 500,000 small farmers’ businesses at stake,” Mah told Business Times in a telephone interview today.

Good diplomatic relations do not give rich countries the licence to restrict developing nations, like Malaysia, from making rightful use of their natural resources.

“Our people need to earn a decent living. Our planters need equal opportunity to trade and export palm oil at deserving market pricing,” Mah said.

Malaysia is the world’s second largest palm oil exporter, after Indonesia. Last year, France bought 215,000 tonnes of palm oil from Malaysia for use in its food industry. Mah said he had diplomatically highlighted to French lawmakers the first oil palm commercial planting in Malaysia was carried out by a French.

Henri Fauconnier, a planter and a writer was accorded the Prix Goncourt in 1930 for his famous novel titled "The Soul of Malaya." The book described his experiences of planting oil palm and depicted various types of Englishmen running estates in Malaya. It also beautifully captured the appeal of the tropical rural.

"Oil palm cultivation is coming to 100 years in Malaysia. We thank France for introducing commercial oil palm planting in our country. Since 1917, the oil palm has done much to bring farmers out of poverty," Mah said.

Since 13th December 2014, the European Union Food Information for Consumers Regulation had mandated specification of vegetable oils (i.e. palm, rapeseed, sunflower, soya) on the ingredient list.

But food companies had also inserted “No Palm Oil” on the labels, which falsely insinuates palm oil is bad and needs to be avoided.

As more supermarket chains support 'Palm Oil Free' and "No Palm Oil" labelling on food and cleaning products, it tarnishes the image of the palm oil industry. This results in the sad reality of palm oil exporters from Malaysia and Indonesia being denied equal opportunities to trade compared with other vegetables oils producers in the world.

Sabah Sarawak
Sabah Fisheries Department willing to develop Tagal system in Sarawak — Director
October 13, 2016, Thursday

Quote:
KUCHING: The Sabah Fisheries Department is willing to assist the Sarawak Agriculture Department to develop the Tagal system in Sarawak.

“We are ready to share information, experience and expertise to develop the project in Sarawak,” said Sabah Fisheries Department director, Dr Ahemad Sade while receiving a delegation from the Sarawak Agriculture Department and Tagang system committee members at his office in Kota Kinabalu recently.

The Tagal system is a unique way of conserving nature by banning fishing at certain times or in certain zones. In Sarawak, it is known as the Tagang system.

Dr Ahemad said the success of the Tagal system in Sabah has provided lucrative income to several villages.

A total of 531 villages involving 221 rivers have joined the Tagal system which has become among the important tourism products of Sabah.

Meanwhile, Sabah Fisheries Department deputy director, Godfrey Kissey said several villages had made revenue of between RM30,000 and RM50,000 per year from the Tagal system.

“The Tagal system has become a tourism product and contributed to a more efficient environmental management, economic and social development of the community.

“The revenue is not derived from the sale of fish but from entrance fees collected from tourists who come to observe the fish,” he said while briefing the delegation from the Sarawak Agriculture Department.

The revenue is also derived from fees charged on those who want to swim in the river and also from the sale of food and beverages to tourists. — Bernama

KUBANG PASU 13 Okt. – Syarikat pengeluar makanan dan minum*an kesihatan, set penjagaan diri dan kulit berasaskan Ganoderma, Gano Excel Enterprise Sdn. Bhd.
