I am not taking about building new "boxes", but to preserv the ones existing like we preserv churches, for instance.
Sure, NYC is huge, but the Manhattan East Rezoning is not. This is still a city ruled by zoning, and all the better for it.

And as a matter of fact, this tower is one block away from the largest FAR zone.

What tower on 42nd? Do tell, Sydney, do tell.

That''s the Grand Hyatt next to GCT. I expect we'll know more about that site well after this tower is a pile of rubble.

Right, I believe that has potential for a 350+ meter building. Hopefully higher...

Exciting stuff, Midtown is going to look insane

All that drama is going to waste here. Should contemplate an Off B'way tragedy play

Actually, it's a shame that they didn't own and demo the one across the street. That's a worse tower for sure. The fašade is far more boring.

^Are you talking about 277 Park? I hope not, I love that one. I like how it and 270 Park looked so much like a couple facing each other across Park Avenue.

^277 Park Avenue was apparently designed to compliment 270. They always looked like a couple to me.

Looks like an execution victim with a hood. I even caught this picture of her appearing to weep on my last visit this July:

Sadly true, I’ve never really been a fan of New York’s boxes, but not even these Skyscrapers deserve this cruel fate.

Imagine being one of the workers that built this tower, spending possible years of your life building this tower, only to have the tower you helped construct destroyed and having wasted all those years you spent building this.

We can’t save this building, but we can honor her

^Truth. This building was renovated to LEED platinum status just 6 years ago and had lots of life left in it. Unfortunately air rights and other issues made it hard for JPMorgan Chase to sell this building and put its new HQ somewhere else close by- there are some really crummy buildings in the area, built after WW2, which need replacing far more than this.

I just hope 277 across the street has a longer life. As for honoring, I'm a cosplayer and character artist, I'm gonna pay homage to this tower for sure.

This is the 4th time New York has lost one of her iconic tall towers to PROGRESS in the last 100 years
