When the megatall section of SSC first opened, it was decided by the forum admin that this thread would remain permanently open here. Due to the Burj Khalifa:

1. being the first ever megatall in the world.
2. surpassing the previous tallest (Taipei 101) by 63%, an insane margin in the history of the world's tallest race.
3. being arguably the most popular/hyped up/followed/read/replied project thread in the history of SSC. Back when it was U/C, members would post self-made diagrams, charts, model and what not when tracking the progress of construction. There was even a forum wide competition to guess the final secret height.

Well, it doesn't seem like there's much to discuss here anymore, based on the content of the earlier posts on this page.

Hey Fury, did you or anybody notice CTBUH slightly changing the stated occupied height on their Skyscrapercenter page? https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/bui...burj-khalifa/3

Now it claims 585.4 m instead of the previous 584.5 m, which has stood for all the years, been on all the drawings (-10.0 m on those which reference the Ground Level podium as starting point instead of the now used B1 parking) and also the one you sent me too. It is clearly false, since each floor is 4.8 m tall between the 139th up to right below the 155th, which sits above the highest occupied floor. The 148th floor observatory value displayed is still correct at 555.7 m.

The real question for me is, why somebody at CTBUH would even begin to edit it?

I only could think of somebody rounding the number and forgetting to delete the decimal place, but then again usually the more precise data is presented - if available - and only the second decimal is rounded (as with for example Lotte World Tower's tip height: 555.7 m instead of 555.65 m).

I wonder if there were plans to evaluate if an even higher observation deck (on multiple levels) was possible or viable (to regain that record back from Shanghai Tower, in case the boutique office didn't pay off in the long run,) but it seems far fetched in many ways, the next observation deck being just 6 floors below and the space above being reserved for MEP.

Last year, Emaar has already retrofitted the boutique offices into "day hire" lounges at levels 152 to 154. The highest one being at 585m.

Greetings from the Big Apple.

Gentlemen / Ladies,

Some questions:

** Have any aerial close-up (bird views) photos been taken of the antenna(?) or upper part of this building?

** The very last floor, what is it used for?

** By how much (in inches or centimeters) does the building sways?

** How would the building cope with any potential powerful sand storm, if any?

Thank you.

Chuckie.

perfectly fine given that since the completion of the building in 2010 (?) there has been a few sand storms in Dubai.

For the photos of the top antennas, i guess it's easy to find this on the internet (have you searched ?)

and i have myself seen many videos on youtube taken by people with their drone (flown there legally AND illegally)

Dubai did have many storms and earthquakes following the completion of Bk and the tower managed pretty well, in fact even better than expected, swaying was barely noticeable.

Wow, I still can’t believe that the Burj has been the worlds tallest for nearly 10 years! She’s more than likely going to be the worlds tallest for another 5 years, so here’s to the Queen of the Sky
