And Tower Verre wasn't allowed to be 1250ft because of skyline impact

Tower Fifth - NYC’s tallest tower
The developer Harry Macklowe Real Estate is planning a breathtaking 500 meter supertall skyskraper on Manhattan, New York, called Tower Fifth. It will be one of the tallest buildings in the world.

New York City is undergoing an architectural renaissance with the construction of supertowers with impeccable looks and a sense of grandeur.

We at Tomorrow are happy and proud to collaborate with Gensler and reshaping New York’s skyline by putting the next 21st-century building on the map.

these guys were on board for the Gateway Tower vision at the Chicago Spire site.

I'll give them credit for trying to incorporate design elements from other nearby landmarks, but that honestly looks like shit.

Yeah, it would be really sad for New York to finally get a 500m tower but for it to be that "thing".

Maybe we should all span the developers' emails with pictures of Flatbush, Steinway, and the other cool one near Wall Street. Maybe he needs a little inspiration.

At this point I wonder if towers of 400m will become a more or less normal occurance in Manhattan? To me it seems we are heading straight to a new roughly 420m plateau in midtown, which is insane!

Oh come on, since Gensler designed the gorgeous Shanghai Tower you would expect more than this unimaginative box.

The only thing I expect is things not sticking out at the top as if a little Bjarke gremlin got into the architect's drawings.

I love skyscrapers, but this poor thing looks like somebody started a game of Jenga and quit a few moves in. Now, the cantilever at 30 Hudson Yards-that is dead sexy!

The current design looks like crap but will undoubtedly improve with time. Hopefully it won't lose its height as the Midtown East Rezoning continues to produce some massive towers.

Yes, 41 West 57th Street would be an incredible design for that site.

Height is 519 m! but design is very "old" boring and stupid.

The article makes no sense in regard to height. It says 1556 feet which is about 475m not 519m
