A few pictures from the weekend. There's not too much to say, this is probably the most intense period of construction yet, with the focus being entirely on completing the necessary concrete work for the bridge that should arrive in January and be in place by the beginning of March.

The only major change in recent plans concerns the prefabricated section of the lock channel, which as you may remember was built in Copenhagen. It turns out (according to the personnel at the Södermalmstorg info spot) that the Danish subcontractor ran into some quality control issues and that Skanska was forced to build it again, in-house this time. [insert disparaging Swedish joke about Denmark here] This means that the section, currently being built in Värtahamnen, will arrive after the main bridge, and not before, as planned previously. This doesn't affect much since they are structurally independent, but may necessitate a temporary solution for the surrounding footbridges.



The foundations for the lock channel are still being built according to plan, though. The concrete forms visible here are being lowered into place as I write according to the webcam.



Katarinavägen should open in August, with only city buses allowed until the bus terminal is complete. The rest of the traffic solution on Södermalm is also partly temporary:



There's only one major concrete pour remaining until the beginning of Katarinavägen is essentialy complete:







The outlines of the Stadsgårdsleden tunnel and main atrium are becoming visible.







The structure is also creeping up on the temporary terminal and roads quite fast now.







Prefabricated elements for the widening of Skeppsbron:



The reinforcement for the bottom slab inside the retaining wall for the drainage channel was lowered into place last week. A few more months of underwater work, and the working area can finally be drained. Meanwhile, most of the main bridge piers are almost complete.





The connections of the underwater utility tunnel and the surrounding quays are also being worked on.











This is where Hornsgatan will soon go. The concrete above the metro was also poured last week.



The rebuilding of the Lokatten stairway has started, now that the new insulating layers against the rock face are in place.



The Borgmästartrapporna staircase on the other hand has been temporarily demolished. One of the new bus terminal's emergency exits will be located here.



Not much of the terminal's construction is visible from the outside, even though around half of the rock excavation is complete.

A most excellent update, C30!

I pass by the place everyday, but you don't see all that much from the subway so good to see all these new angles.
Honestly, I still can't see the where the new car tunnel will go.

Thanks! I'm not sure if all that many people even follow this thread anymore, but as I'm taking the pictures for myself anyway I might as well continue with these updates.

The tunnel is the mostly column-free second-floor area to the right here, it's quite a bit more obvious on the webcam now that the pour has been made.

Wow, what a monstrous mess of concrete and steel. Honestly I struggle to figure it all out but I really love to see how its progress upwards.

Great update! Thank you so much for documenting the construction for everyone to follow.

It really seems like the construction phase is picking up speed. Exciting to see the new bridge in just a few months!

Some of the works halted today to be able to open the sluice gates to let as much water as possible out of Mälaren. Water level is almost 1.2 meters above normal in Mälaren.

Tillfälligt avsteg från kontrollprogrammet
Om avtappning sker då dessa arbeten pågår måste arbetena stoppas samtidigt som det finns risk för att utförda arbeten skadas. Detta skulle medföra stora konsekvenser både avseende högre kostnader och längre utförandetid.

Mot bakgrund av ovanstående har Stockholms stad informerat Länsstyrelsen, Stockholms hamnar, SMHI samt Sjöfartsverket att staden avser att göra ett tillfälligt avsteg från kontrollprogrammet. Avsteget gäller under perioden 11 till 18 december 2019 och innebär att vattnet inte släpps ut vid Slussen innan projektet har säkrat arbetena. Vattendomen innehåller stöd för denna typ av avsteg. Vattennivån bedöms stiga ytterligare någon cm till på onsdag och därefter börja sjunka sakta när vatten släpps genom Slussenprojektet.

The main bridge is on it's way from China now, just passed Singapore. It should arrive in about 7 weeks from now.

Längre västerut längs Munkbron ska vi ska även gräva ner el och fjärrvärme hela vägen till Gamla stans t-bana.

Ett mindre arbetsområde etableras också i höjd med Kornhamnstorg 55-59. Här kommer vi att utföra gatuarbeten i cirka två månader, sedan flyttar arbetsområdet vidare österut närmare korsningen.

Trafikomläggningen innebär också att reglerplatserna för bussar på Munkbroleden i höjd med Munkbrogatan tas bort.

It has now crossed the Indian Ocean, and is turning into the Red Sea. It is currently in Djibouti waters as far as I can tell.

The ship with the bridge on it entered the Suez Canal this morning and is currently in the Small Bitter Lake.

Current on-site works:
putting in the rebar for the uppermost concrete level on the last bits of Katarinavägen: the part directly east of Ryssgården (the square between the subway entrances and in front of the City Museum).

The ship and bridge have passed through the Suez Canal and have now entered the Mediterranean Sea.

This weeks update about the construction on the city's website says:
"Enligt nuvarande plan kommer vi att flytta över gång- och cykeltrafiken till andra sidan av Katarinavägen helgen vecka 6, eller i början av vecka 7."
So about a week left til the last? repositioning of the walkways.

The ship with the bridge is currently north of Algeria, far south from Mallorca.
