Blimey. I've only ever known this site to be a group of vandalized abandoned houses. Looking forward to this one. And hopefully more investment in Balsall heath.

I'm delighted by this. Been driving down this road regularly for many years thinking the potential is absolutely huge. This could be a really cool, bohemian area, the architecture is perfect and the skyline view is perhaps the best in the city.

Yes this should have a massively positive effect on Balsall Heath, as well as Moseley and Kings Heath.

I wonder why these buildings are listed.

Not forgetting the possible Belgrave Village at the other end of Balsall Heath with over 700 homes and retail.

Click on here www.apsleyhousecapital.co.uk/projects/ and scroll down to the bottom. The site is outside the middleway, off Haden Way.

"A landmark mixed use village that will create a new community in the heart of Birmingham. Plans are currently being worked on and subject to planning permission this scheme will provide 85,000 sq ft of retail space along with over 100 town houses, transforming 12 acres of vacant land creating new homes and employment within touching distance of the city centre. The development is also well placed to benefit from a number of local open spaces and parks."

Only 100 townhouses, hopefully something similar to the Brick House at Port Loop would be nice though. It's still barely 20dph.

The 85,000sqft of retail space is curious, possibly a means of replacing the 60s stuff over the road at Highgate and forming a new community rather than some kind of of ill conceived shopping mall?

200 dwellings per ha though. That's incredibly high.

I think the render shown for this development on twitter @TDBbirmingham is a new one not seen before but don’t know how to do links. Looks really nice!

Yes, I was trying to post that image too. My old way of Photobucket doesn't seem to work anymore. Couldn't copy the link. Fantastic image though. Will be transformative.

On the subject of Balsall Heath and this area in particular. Has anyone seen a thread about the Neighbourhood Plan that was first talked about in 2011? I've only just seen it but am very curious about the idea of a town square where Haden Way meets Moseley Road (and what happens to the traffic trying to get to Moseley etc).

Thanks for posting, not sure why i didn't do that myself... for some reason, my brain was thinking about embedding the tweet rather than the photo.
