Massive. Are these all Chinese projects, or are Algerian companies also doing major road projects like this?

The whole highway is an Algerian-Spanish-Chinese project with many algerian companies involved.

This bridge is actually an NRS AS project, a Norwegian company.

More here : http://www.nrsas.com/movable-scaffol...-748bfac6-25f7

Most of these projects are typically made of a consortium of Algerian and foreign companies (mainly Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Turkish) working together.

The French are not involved? I'm asking this, because the lay-out of roads and signs are based on the French system...

Algeria has built a major motorway from the Moroccan to the Tunisian borders in the last 10 years. It should all be open by now.

But these borders are closed, aren't they?

Sorry for those possibly silly questions, It's just that I'm a little intrigued...

Dunno, but you can see a motorway built right up to the Algerian side in both cases. This map shows the general plan.

The green one is the one that is about finished end to end now.

Not only that, there's still a 20km section of A2 missing on the Moroccan side between Oujda and the border.

On Moroccan side, the A2 could link the Oujda airport to Algeria, to become a regional hub which could benefit the population in the border area of both countries.
The capacity is severy underused at the moment.
But God forbid 2 Arab countries actually doing some cooperation...

I think there is no french companies involved in road construction and/or public works in Algeria.

The colors on the road signs are very similar to french ones. I think they are all made in Algeria by a public company called "Entreprise nationale de panneaux de signalisation" (ENPS).

The border with Morocco is closed but the western part of the Algerian Autoroute Est-Ouest finishes near the border but actually you have to take the Maghnia/Ghazaouet exit before the border.

The border with Tunisia never closed. Actually the northern border post is quite busy especially during holidays.
