Imagine the balls it must take to be that guy swinging steel beams around by a cable 1000 meters in the air.

Lol they'd have to be larger than the building itself. Announcement for 2017 on the BBC, worlds tallest building the Burj Khalifa has now been surpassed in height by the balls of the man that operates the crane on the Kingdom Tower.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks to all who post photos of this beauty on a regular basis. Does anyone know anything about the climbing system they are using on this job? Do they jump automatically? Once they are jumped, how many floors can be completed before jumping them again? I've used something similar on a much smaller scale (obviously ) and this system is at least twice as tall as the one I'm familiar with. Thanks!

Hi all.

As CH.W posted, the only excavation done was for the raft therefore the lowest level we see in pics is level B2. The site will be built up later so level 1 will be at 'grade'.

I would be surprised when there were no mall and no lake at all.
Furthermore i don't think the render is final. Kingdom City isn't yet under construction so more realistic renders will come...
I think it's so good if I can see building reflections on the water.

I agree with you that lakes around tall skyscrapers make them look so much nicer-especially in a vast desert. However lakes can be a very cost ineffective thing to do, since they are expensive to build and can be seen as 'wasted' space. Instead the developers will probably put in the small lake as suggested before and surround the rest of the building with offices and hotels.

Yes it does appear so. It might be so that it beats the Mubarak Al Kabir tower's suggested height of 1001m.

i think the crane goes up to 1012m, or there will be an antenna of 5m? because 1007m is another number right under it.

Well, there is definitely some sort of structural tip/antenna to the building which is shown on the planning diagram to bring the total height of the building to 1012m - it wouldn't be the crane as it is slightly higher than the pointer on the diagram at 1012.

No i think that the 1012m height does indicate the height of the spire, since the crane on the diagram appears to go way above that note.

Burj Khalifa was also announced with a certain hight about 800m+ and the exact hight was 828m.
Bevore Kingdom Tower will be complete the question whether Mubarak Al Kabir will be build is decided. When they annonce it with 1001m i'm sure they will take care that Kingdom Tower is higher. But anyway i think it's not a great problem to add a few meters spire on each of both towers to make it than the highest building on earth...it's a race head to head at such similar hights.

Yes we may end up with a similar height race, to what occured in New York during the 1930s. Where engineers were literally putting broomsticks on the top of their building's spires, just to make their building 1m taller than the their neighbours and piss off their rivals.

That last crane on top will be have really long mast.

BTW i think they could made spire from aluminium or other light material so last part of spire can be higher than 1000m.

It is interesting, how they decided that on the top of this 1007m building should be Liebherr (not Wolff) crane?

They choose the best in relation to the costs.
