I sort of view it as Nashville coming into its own as a southern powerhouse city/metro. It reminds of the boom that started in Austin a few years ago that has completely transformed that city's skyline. I assume Charlotte went through a similar stage at some point as well.
Even still, I don't think Charlotte has ever went under a residential highrise boom that Nashville is currently going under. Even now, Nashville is building so much more residential highrises than Charlotte is in the urban core.

I think a lot has to do with the fact that Nashville's downtown is a lot more dynamic with interesting places to see like Printer's Alley or Broadway. Austin has Rainey street or 6th street. Charlotte doesn't have anything like that on a large scale yet so the residential highrise boom has been muted...Charlotte has to do it slowly over decades like Atlanta had to before there's enough critical mass to continuing support a large urban highrise boom(Like Midtown Atlanta or Buckhead now). Nashville and Austin can do it rapidly because of an already interesting district(usually a dense collection of unique bars and nightclubs) that exists that people are attracted to and want to live near. It also helps that like Atlanta, Nashville has a huge entertainment industry and lots of those types live in luxury highrises.

Nashville boom is surprisingly large and more of what you'd expect from a metro of 4+ million people. It's not even a 2 million metro. It's just very impressive. One day, I need to get to Nashville just to see the city. I have yet to visit.

Which is why I tell Nashvillians not to fret about its present mass-transit. Based on its still modest population, it's on a similar track as larger cities which now possess burgeoning systems.

Nashville's metro population was 1,830,345 in the 2015 U.S. Census estimates. It should be just over 2 million by 2020.

What are they going to do with the Bridgestone buidling near Opry Mills once the downtown skyscraper is completed?

The current space is leased and will not be renewed. That space will be available to anyone to lease after Bridgestone moves out

The Bridgestone Tower is listed as 460 ft. which would make you think that it would be noticeably taller than the Pinnacle nearby which is listed at 417 ft. but when I've driven down there a couple of times recently it would appear that the Pinnacle appears substantially taller and from certain vantage points coming across the river into downtown the Bridgestone is hardly noticeable because it's behind the Pinnacle. Now I did notice that the Pinnacle says that height measurement is from the roof which might not include those edges of the fašade which would certainly add considerable height and would make me wonder why they're not included in the height to begin with. So basically I'm wondering is the Bridgestone Tower really going to be a skyline changing structure when it's completed as I'd hoped it would or will it be overshadowed by the Pinnacle and only appear to be an eye catching building when you're viewing it from downtown. Thanks!

Skyline changing? Yes, but not in a dramatic way. It will have the wings that are found on the vernacular for highrises today, which should make the total height edge out Pinnacle's. Also it will add more density to a quickly densifying downtown skyline. However it won't be long before it is easily overlooked in the mix primarily because it's not going to be significantly taller than the buildings around it. Further, when the North Rivers Partners twin-towers are built at 40+ stories, the Bridgestone tower will be all but obscured from the northern and eastern vantages.
