They don’t. They’re expecting “up to 30%” more capacity which is about right. 18 to 24 tph on simpler lines. A bit less on branched ones

30% more capacity is about, what? 6 or 7 years growth at current rates?

Still, with C&SW Metro, Metro West and signals/power upgrades to existing lines you're probably more then doubling peak capacity into and out of the CBD by 2027/28.

Yep. Which is why they all need doing. Never has been an either/or equation. That's the bit that ETS and the like miss

About 130 metres in length, Kathleen lies in wait about 30m underground at Barangaroo on the western edge of Sydney's central business district.

Within days, the giant tunnel boring machine will begin to churn through clay, sediment and rock on the first of two one-kilometre journeys under Sydney Harbour to build the second stage of the city's multibillion-dollar metro railway.

With four giant boring machines worming their way towards Sydney's CBD from Chatswood in the north and Marrickville in the inner west, the NSW government expects the 15.5km twin tunnels for the second stage of the rail line to be completed by March next year.

Noticed the spoil pouring out of the conveyor belt at the Sydenham TBM divesite this morning was light grey, unlike earlier digs. Looks like Nancy's ploughing through clay at Central.

Let's all sing-along with Nancy:

Fee-fi-fo-fum;
I smell the blood of an Englishman.
Be he alive or be he dead,
I'll grind his bones to make my bread.

Have you guys heard the latest goss? It's on Ho Chi Minns fb page, one predicting Michael Daley to take on opposition transport/planning. FML if that's true.

Is there anyone in NSW, who if given the transport portfolio would actually listen to the experts, accept metros and come up with good new ideas?

It's back to the old guard of cancelling public transport projects, with pressure from the unions.

I want to see metro expansion, across Sydney. Ho Chi Minns wants that too. All the more power to him.
