Sydney seems to have a lot of good suburban stations. Hurstville seriously needs a makeover though - does anyone know about the timeline of the upgrade?

Why is that? That's one of the stupidest rules I've ever heard. I'm really sick of photography-fascists. Can we please throw them out to sea?

The mother of all stations in Australia!

Sydney Central Station! (27 platforms, 25 in use)

Sydney Central is a fantastic station.
But wait, just look a this masterpiece we have in inner suburban Adelaide. This is Keswick. There is no wheelchair access, no signs, no info, no ticket machine, no people, yet there are quite a few office buildings around this station. Also there is no direct connection to the Keswick interstate terminal

Disgraceful, and embarrasing Keswick, by annabel43 on flickr

No ticket machines? Really? If you're ever caught by a train guard without a ticket, I guess you could use the excuse: "Oh, but I got on from Keswick!".

Very few of Adelaide train stations have ticket machines

It's a shame that some parts of Adelaide's train network is treated like that. The infrastructure is basically there, it just needs to be upgraded a lot! Hopefully that will happen eventually!

80% of Adelaides network looks like and is treated like that. Theres only a handful of stations that are decent. I hope it gets upgraded. At the moment, you wonder why they even keep the system going outside of peak hour

What a shame to see what looks like a fairly major station (having 5 platforms) around Adelaide like Keswick in such despair.

Get your finger out SA government and start spending some money on improving things there. Take a look at Perth for example, also Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne's rail networks.

Pehaps electrification of Adelaide's metropolitan rail network ***ONE DAY*** might get things going.

There's no point having a ticket machine in the Adelaide suburban stations because they're on every car of every train. Everywhere else you need to speak to a human. It'd be good if they put them on the bus interchanges and in the Adelaide concourse, however.

Sunbus610, while Keswick does have five platforms, only four are used. The fifth is a standard gauge track, where as the suburban trains are broad gauge.

Adelaide's newest station, Mawson Lakes Interchange. It's only one of a handful of stations with any decent facilities. And it's fantastic proof of the potential inherit in the network, because even though it's only been open for just over a year, it's one of the busiest stations on the Gawler Line. If more stations were like this, people would use the trains more, IMO.

From when it had just opened:

Ban? What ban?

Entrance to Melbourne Central. I noticed that there was a McDonalds inside the barriers, which I thought was unusual.
