Traffic Jams in Asian Cities

Searched through this forum (at least in the Cityscape section) and there weren't any threads dedicated to Traffic jams yet..might as well start one

Traffic Jams are a common sight in most if not all major Asian cities. Share pictures and possibly a story of you experience/thoughts of Traffic Jams happening in your city in this thread

Jakarta Traffic

By VRS:

Despite having a BRT line in operation, Pekanbaru, an Indonesian mid sized city has it share of traffic dilemma

Yes... Malaysia in general is relatively a small nation in terms of population. But the country sold a record-breaking 605,156 passengers cars last year. It previously had the largest passenger automobile market in ASEAN ever since.

On a ratio basis, I read somewhere Malaysia has one of the highest car per population in the world. And also has one of the highest road accident per population ratio.

There are approximately 30 highways around Metro KL.

I think a few of those pics above are shown during festive periods....I drive around for work in KL, it's not as bad as in the pics above....Only certain stretches and highways...

Anyway don't we already have a thread for this? I remembered making a point regarding an argument about traffic jams in Malaysia for some of the same pics above.....

i think it's totally fine posting all those jams in KL and any other cities but it would be better to indicate whether or not it was taken on a rush hour, a regular day, a weekend, a holiday so other people can have comparative observation... for instance, what was seen of KL above might not be exactly what one would expect on a regular day 'coz traffic jams happens only on holidays and festive seasons as what some people would claim.

probably no SEA + E.ASIA cities could ever beat Bangkok for traffic congestion we will be living in the hell on earth for the next three years when the 7 new BTS+MRT lines are built.

7 New BTS+MRT lines? That's great..The traffic will be annoying but personally I wouldn't mind seeing gridlock due to these projects, you can call it traffic generated for a good cause (Mass Transit) unlike the increased traffic in two of Jakarta's arterial roads which is due to a project that is benefiting private transit (5 km long Flyovers)

Malaysia will hear of at least another 7 new highways this year.

KL is building a new 155km MRT system costing more than 40 billion ringgit.

And another 17.7km extension to the existing LRT.

It is also, and again, mulling a bullet train from Penang - KL - Singapore.

KL traffic can't compare with Bangkok traffic.
I think KL roads has more space for new cars but Bangkok dosen't.

Malaysian traffic jam: I think some of the photos shown are taken during festive period, especially the one entitled "outside KL". The traffic is bad during peak hours but I don't think it is as bad as BKK or JKT. Btw the population of Metro KL is 7.2 million. It should not be confused with KL city (mainly city centre area only).

HK does have its own share of traffic jams especially within The Cross Harbour Tunnel.

Sometimes, the traffic in the Cross Harbour Tunnel can be that bad that some taxi drivers refuse to accept passengers heading from HK Island to Kowloon within this route or vice versa.
