Kocatepe Mosque was built in 1967-1987 in accordance with classical Ottoman models, which emphasize the placement of four minarets. Its size and prominent location make it a landmark that can be seen from most anywhere in central Ankara.

Very interesting pictures. The city center looks very modern.
I didn't know that so many subway lines are u.c. and planned. Great development.

Thanks Wagahai. Well 3 different metro line constructions at the same time makes city quite messy during u/c. Though I am happy we will have a much better transportation system when finished. The lines tagged "planned" may need some time before they are constructed, they are not critical though.

I don't think this will be the case. There not much to see for tourists. It's an average city in my opinion.

Yeah %99 of the tourists visits Ankara for one day (as a part of Capadocia tour, as Ankara is on the way between Capadocia-Istanbul), just go to citadel, historical district Ulus, shop in the oriental bazaar of Ulus, and leave the city without even visiting real downtown. They don't even see those places I show here on those typical "on the way" trips.

For city becoming a rival of Istanbul and Izmir in terms of tourist attraction, I also don't think so. Although it hosts the biggest museum on Anatolian Civilizations, other than that there is not much to see in terms of historic inside the city. Historic district is not that beatiful as the modern part. Maybe as a result of the congress centers popping all around the city it may become a congress center, but still not as powerful as Istanbul to become a rival.
