Looking forward to this development a good example of creating a sense of place to somewhere that at present just feels like a no mans land.

Apologies for mobile phone image quality, but as I was passing yesterday the white sheeting was going up, and it seemed nice to record the moment:

BTW, should the thread be titled either 'St George's Circus' or 'Blackfriars Road'? There's no Blackfriars Circus.

Great pic Ceri S !

Blackfriars Circus is the name of development which bares very little to its location a bit like The Madision or Akyon. It's all marketing hogwash if you ask me.

Ha, is that what they're calling it? How confusing!

Oh well, I'll try to remember next time I'm searching for this thread. Finally located it at the bottom of page three. Maybe some activity worth photographing will keep it nearer the top.

Agreed - Blackfriars Circus makes complete sense - it's very London unlike Madison.

bloody hell, not only a londony name but the marketing material refers to a cultural asset that's actually local to the development, and not just some stereotypical collage of knightsbridge designer outlets. this must be a first.

next you'll be telling me that the interiors DON'T look like laurence llewelyn-bowen, a bulgarian pimp and a grandmother from the 1970s got a bit carried away with the sheikh's credit card.

London has more than it's fair share of ugliness. What I enjoy with these new schemes is the riddance of that ugliness from our great city. This is another example of the sort of patch that could grind you down and make you forget all the good stuff. No one will miss this grey block of misery!

'A new investment opportunity' say's alot about how people see homes and not as just homes to live in, very sad.

Here's a good angle from Google Streetview: the new building will replace the one on the right. You can just about see the Southbank tower poking up in the corner.

I just hope they have shops or cafes at ground level to help animate the circus.. it can feel a little desolate and un-loved

Are the restored Victorian shop units across the road now occupied?

Unless I'm mistaken the building you're talking about is part of London Southbank University, and the ground floor 'shops' are simply an extension on the office space - so closed doors, frosted glass and essentially may as well be a blank wall to the street.

Oh that would make sense, what a shame.
If they were artist studios that would at least be something visual to watch.

Even as offices I don't understand the frosted glass. Surely the people in side would rather have a view into the leafy street?

It does seem an odd choice!
