Why are they beginning construction of this airport so late? The current airport is too small. I passed through it a few weeks ago, and although the Etihad Terminal 3 is quite clean and new and they've renovated the older terminals, the airport is too crowded. The only good thing is that there are usually no lines at immigration when departing, but if you arrive around 9-11pm, than its horrible; lines are all mixed up, and they have a few flights from India arriving with most people being laborers, and not understanding what line to stand in, and cutting lines. Its awful!! On top of that, half the counters are closed, and those that are open, 2 out of 5 of them are dedicated to GCC nationals! And as much as the Indian passengers were annoying me, I felt bad for them cause security was treating them like animals, and being quite rude. Going to avoid travelling through AUH now, unless I get a good deal in Business class.

This will be the most beautiful airport in the world, I love the new design of this terminal, so futuristic. Btw, how the progress now? any pic or photo updates?

Maybe they still don't need to build it. The current one seems to cater for the current Etihad needs for now.
It's the same size, no? looks bigger though!

Abu Dhabi's ADAC appoints former Heathrow chief

Quote:
Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) said on Saturday said it has appointed Tony Douglas, a former CEO of London Heathrow, as its chief executive.

Douglas, also formerly CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), replaces James Bennet who resigned a month ago, a statement from ADAC said.

The goal of the multi-billion dollar Mid Field Terminal mega-project is to boost airport capacity to 40 million passengers a year - a critical element in Abu Dhabi's vision to become a global commercial hub and thriving destination for international tourism.

They (L&T) did the existing terminal at AUH way back in the early 80s.....!!! They are India's largest construction company and are working on Mumbai Intl. airport and Salalah airport's new terminal in Oman!!

When the present abu dhabi terminal was built in the 80s they should have made the central circular terminal much bigger... that would have helped.. they should also introduce the e-gate like they have in Dubai.. electronic passports can just scan, and its a lot quicker... at AUH, for a while they used to use buses to ferry people from planes parked far away.. I don't know if they still use it now...

oh btw, we get a lot of labourers from Pakistan, Afghanistan and other parts of asia too..

the funny thing is the new airport coming up in Bombay looks very similar to the midfield terminal... furthermore, the old terminals in both cities have similar shapes...I am assuming that they had same architects/engineers
