So what point are you trying to make exactly? According to the article below Emirates have announced a HUGE delay to their proposed move to the new Al Maktoum Intl.

Why are you making this a Dubai verus Abu Dhabi page? No one is saying that Dubai is faster or better. This is a forum that discusses all projects not only in the UAE but the world. So please calm down.

Nobody's making it into an Abu Dhabi v Dubai page. I know what point I'm trying to make. So why don't you cool down?

The construction of the first runway at DWC has started way before 2011, just for the record.

They've announced a delay cause they don't have money to afford that right now. They are still heavily in debt. And despite this, they are still building concourse 4 which will have a 15 million passenger capacity and be ready in 2015.
Abu Dhabi on the other hand has $800bn in cash yet they are still slow to announce and build things.
There was a small discussion in the New Doha airport thread about what differentiates Dubai from the wealthy states of Qatar and Abu Dhabi. It starts from post 1306.

Yes, all "tiny" points tickle the wrong way and they are never ever discussed again. So, moving right along.....

Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal to be bigger than the Pentagon

Quote:
Abu Dhabi plans to more than triple passenger capacity with a new airport terminal, banking on luxury travel and growth of the flag carrier Etihad Airways to provide demand.

The Midfield Terminal under construction at Abu Dhabi International Airport, with a total floor area exceeding the Pentagon and maximum capacity of 40 million passengers, is due to open in late 2017. The facility, among the world's biggest single-capacity buildings, will be home to Etihad and its partner airlines.
Dubai and Doha in Qatar are also expanding capacity at their airports and Istanbul is building an aerodrome that will be among the world's largest. Abu Dhabi's airport served 14.7 million passengers in 2012, compared with almost 58 million in Dubai.
Abu Dhabi Airport chief executive Tony Douglas said he is not concerned that there was too much capacity in the region.

Major milestone reached at Abu Dhabi’s Midfield Terminal project

Quote:

A construction milestone has been achieved at Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new terminal, which will become one of the world’s largest when it opens in 2017.

The first buttress for the steel arches to support the Midfield Terminal’s roof was laid on Sunday, a week ahead of schedule.

The sprawling site, which is littered with dozens of cranes and steel columns, has, until now, been hidden from view from drivers on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai road, but will start to become visible as work to build the roof begins.

“I think it’s fair to say that it’s been one of Abu Dhabi’s better kept secrets,” said Tony Douglas, the chief executive of Abu Dhabi Airports, during a tour of the site yesterday.

“But what we achieved [on Sunday] will take it from a pretty well kept secret to a spectator sport going forward.”

Intense focus on airport deadlines

Quote:
Abu Dhabi Airports Company (Adac) has set itself a strict timeline to complete its new Midfield Terminal at the emirate’s international airport.

Speaking during a site visit, Adac chief executive officer Tony Douglas said the terminal would open on 17 July 2017. “Failure is unacceptable,” he added.

With other GCC airports expanding and opening new terminals, vying to become global transport hubs, it will be crucial for Abu Dhabi to stick to its deadline. The new terminal will also add much-needed capacity for Abu Dhabi’s rapidly growing Etihad Airways.

To ensure the project stays on schedule, Adac decided to publicly announce a major construction milestone on 20 October, when the first buttress that will support the steel arches holding up the terminal’s roof was put in place, seven days ahead of schedule.

Douglas’ focus on deadlines will inevitably be influenced by the need to avoid a debacle like the one at Qatar’s new Hamad International airport, which is running years behind its original schedule. He will also be conscious of the emirate’s competition with neighbouring Dubai, which is due to open the passenger terminal at the new Al-Maktoum airport on 27 October.
