So why didnt gs trust have this application up and running ages ago. They are only doing this now, that the link road went through, which they tried to prevent?

I'd imagine GS are using the cash from the CPO to fund the development.

The trustees of the pension fund are the exact same people who ran the liquidated company. So they can generate long-term income from the money from the council.

Unremarkable building, in amongst dreadful buildings - prepare for a few decades of mediocre piecemeal developments that don't really maximize a key location.
