I see that Portland is getting a Ritz Carlton Hotel. Why can't Seattle seem to attract these 5 star names?

I wonder if the project at 5th and Stewart will get a marquee 5 star brand. We do have Fairmont, Four Seasons and Pan Pacific but I’d like to see Ritz Carlton and le Meridien.

On the link train if looked like an orange backhoe with a jack hammer type attachment was parked behind the Salvation Army facility on 4th Ave.

Which ad blocker do you use? I get redirected constantly while using Safari, both on my Mac and ipad.

ABP 2.0.6

I also have Chrome and Firefox which I maintain without ad blockers. I use them for a small number of tasks, including reading anything that refuses to let you read it unless you disable your ad blocker.

uBlock Origin is the best adblocker out there, mainly because it's open-source and has far greater customization. I'm able to blacklist and whitelist pretty easily and even block specific page elements if they bother me.

In the wake of the New Orleans hotel collapse, and with tropical storm winds bearing down on the city, they now plan to use explosives to demolish the damaged cranes on the site.

Can't wait to see cranes blown up. Sounds like a terrible plan but I can't think of a better one. Maybe it'll help destroy any evidence.

I'm not sure that was what they wanted to happen, exactly...

They're saying that's what they wanted...

Her sentiments were echoed by Fire Department Superintendent Tim McConnell. “I don’t think it could have gone much better — it went down exactly as we expected it to do,” he said.

McConnell said that while part of the Alpha crane was still perched at the top of the wrecked building, it was in a safer condition as a result of the demolition because a good share of it was now supported by the building. “It’s way better than what it looks,” he said.

Was driving yesterday saw the entire length of the on ramp from Rainer ave to 90 east is packed with tents and trash. It's getting ridiculous.

I'm just glad the tents aren't along the Portside Trail (aka south end of Elliott Bay Trail) along Terminal 46. Some authority is keeping the people from camping along there on a daily basis since they were cleared out about a month ago (I've seen a few attempts at camping since the big clear out). Great example of how not to design a space along a major trail that puts homeless living space there within inches of bikes speeding past. Probably should be fencing on both sides of the trail. Extra bad spot since a portion of the path and camping "shoulder" is under cover (elevated roadway above).

Freeway ramps isn't a bad outcome vs. the alternatives.
