National did not lose the election. In fact they got more votes than any other party.
Whisky Peters just picked all the losing parties thats all.

I can't think of a single professional politician in our government. Care to give some examples?

At least Trump is a very successful businessman.

Of course National won. that's why Bill English is sitting in the PM's chair.....
MMP was National legislation and replaced FPP which has departed the scene but if it still existed the result would have been completely different as voters would have chosen other options.
National simply has swallowed all the so called right wing votes from it's own allies who have gone to oblivion except ACT which is struggling.
If Shipley had not shafted Winston, "Whiskey Peters" might still be a friend. He was originally a National MP.

Whats wrong with shafting Whiskey Peters? I got no problem with that.

This is where MMP fails. It tries to force parties to get into bed with each other, even if they corrupt. Why should any party have to make friends with Whiskey Peters? He is without doubt New Zealands most corrupt politician. It stumps me that so many Kiwis stick up for this fella now that he is deputy PM. At least the greens and Labour have a little more integrity than him. Come on, call him out for what he is ....

Shipley shafted him after Peters threatened to bring down the coalition over the sale of the crown's share in Wellington Airport after a collective cabinet decision approved it...

Peters was bound by collective responsibility and he broke that, what was Shipley supposed to say, "Sure go ahead"

(The early MMP agreements were much stricter ( the NZ First-National one was 73 pages... The current one is 8 (although there is a private annex of 33 pages we are not allowed to see)

A shafting is still a shafting. The only reason Shipley was there was because she had shafted Bolger who had done a good job managing the coalition, too good as far as Labour was concerned.
Crashing the coalition for a silly thing like the airport sale was a joke.
If Bolger was still PM at the time WP would probably still be National friendly. Of course the NZ voters did a bit of shafting at the next election and Shipley went.
Managing coalitions is a major role of the PM under MMP but Shipley was clueless in this area lost in an ancient FPP world.
Some of the comments I see today indicate some National supporters still do not get MMP and may not be capable of doing so.

Kiwi Build counter has just clicked over 21,000 homes due to be completed.

Did Ms Woods not say the targets were gone but we would get monthly updates, waiting.

Government tree count has just clicked over 220,000,000.

err, where did you get that figure?

The Billion trees tracker at Forestry NZ, (The Govt agency in charge of the programme) lists the government funded tree total at a little under 25 million.
https://www.mpi.govt.nz/funding-and-...anting-tracker

Total trees planted since the programme begun (mostly by the private sector to replace trees they were chopping down anyway) is 150 million,

This is also an issue in Norway, it looks like begging will be made illegal here after Christmas.

Using tax payer money to take them to court, to give them a fine they can't pay. Sounds like a no-brainer.

It's better than having them clogging up the pavements.

Do you support min sentences for assaults on first responders, or should we just give them a hug?
