Yes, but the new numbers were officially adopted last April.
They even appeared in Gazette of India.

Aftre reading https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...&postcount=291
I felt stupid. I mean, has he forgotten that MPE is a GHAT road?

Anyway, on topic.
I couldn't see much signs of the NBTPL Tumkur Road expressway.

Union highways ministry, Planning Commission fast-tracking proposal for Delhi-Jaipur expressway

Quote:
NEW DELHI: Traffic woes on the Delhi- Jaipur highway could end sooner than expected. The Union highways ministry and Planning Commission are fast-tracking a proposal to construct a new 261km expressway linking the two cities that will take the load off the existing road.

Though road transport and highways minister C P Joshi had last month announced a plan to build two new high-speed links from the capital to Jaipur and Chandigarh, the Pink City stretch has been prioritized. This new alignment road will be 4 to 6-laned and is estimated to cost Rs 10,000 crore,.

As per the tender document, the expressway must connect with the Manesar-Bawal, Kushkhera-Bhiwadi- Nimrana nodes being developed as part of the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor and other national highway networks.

Among the possible alignments being discussed is starting the expressway from the outskirts of Delhi and terminating on the Jaipur bypass, but there's no consensus on this yet. Sources said the new road could also start from the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway

Hey just joined in and just loved going through the motions of reading the 54 odd pages, I had some doubts in my head, thought would bounce it off you all..

- How does one decide (NHAI/NEAI) as to how many lanes should a highway or expressway have ?
- What logic is taken while deciding the alignment of an expressway?
- Again what prompts the decision to use concrete or bitumen on our highways/expressways.

You all may have discussed this already somewhere, though I would educate myself alongside, If you have some clues, do share in.

Number of lanes is decided by traffic forecast.

Alignment depends on the need and availability of land (that is highway should pass close to the populated areas but should be routed in such as way that minimum demolitions and land acquisitions are required.

If so is the case, I hope somebody did their traffic forecast calculations right. IMO any inter city expressway being planned should be minimum 3+3 lanes to take care of one lane - slow moving truck traffic (say 50-60 kmph), 2nd lane - other 4 wheelers (buses, cautious car drivers say 60-80 kmph) and the fast lane for speeds at the speed limit (90-120 kmph).

Any lesser would mean merging of speeds and with our notorious traffic discipline it would mean zig-zagging through traffic (which I am sure overtaking on the wrong side and end up breaking traffic rules) and keeping the average speeds to not cross say 60 kmph.

What is the point in being happy about new expressways being built where average speeds are going to remain a historical same and with increased population/car sales, I forsee more frustration.

With the sole exception of MPE for a inter-city expressway which is a 3+3, the Ahmedabad-Baroda, the Belghoria, Bangalore-Mysore as seen by the snaps are all 2+2 and the new planned ones - Delhi-Jaipur and Delhi-Chd again are also being planned for 2+2 and extendible to 3+3 (they might keep the right of way).

Pray why can't we plan and build it right the first time. Considering cost escalations why can't we plan for the future say 30-50 yrs horizon with the 3+3 with shoulders or a 4+4 for busy stretches which seems standard for busy inter-city highways across the world.

I reckon we will have the same issues cropping as the with NHDP - Ph VI where busy 2+2 GQ highways are blocked to add the 3rd lane furthering slowing traffic. Case in point I remember my friends talking about the NH 8, you came out of the DGE and onto u/c highways with debris/equipment taking part of the road, meant very frustrating drives. I don't know the position now though.

Would you want any of this happening to the new expressways coming up with construction blocking your fave road?

Any pointers..

The Golden Quadrilateral is completed more than 99%.
NS/EW is done 77%.
Phase 3 has been done 19%.

Total of all NHDP 7 Phases is done 30%. It may take 10 more years to complete the rest 30,000 Kms.

Don't worry. We're already in the transition phase.
The only problem in the middle is Reliance, which shouldn't handle roads. Otherwise, India has lovely roads.
Some of our highways are of expressway standards.

It's an 8 lane road. 12 lanes are probably here because of merging lanes for entry/exit. But still it is one of the widest roads in the country .
