Emirates goes daily to Khartoum

By ARAB NEWS
Published: Nov 21, 2011 20:28 Updated: Nov 22, 2011 00:20

Emirates has increased its commitment to Sudan with the introduction of one additional flight per week, providing a daily, non-stop service between Dubai and Khartoum Civil Airport from Dec. 5.

Emirates will continue to use an Airbus 330-200 on the route offering 12 luxurious First Class seats, 42 seats in Business Class and generous space for 183 passengers in Economy Class, and 18 tons of bellyhold cargo.

“By providing an extra flight, we are responding to strong demand from our customers for our Khartoum-Dubai services,” said Jean Luc Grillet, Emirates’ senior vice president, commercial operations, Africa.

“This additional flight will offer customers greater flexibility in choosing their travel times as well as help support further business and tourism opportunities in Sudan,” said the vice president.

From Dec. 5, EK 0733 will depart Dubai every day at 1500hrs, touching down at Khartoum Civil Airport at 1825hrs the same day. The return flight, EK 0734, departs Khartoum at 1955hrs and arrives in Dubai at 0045hrs the following day.

The service connects seamlessly with flights from Dubai to the ever-increasing number of destinations across the Emirates network.

Emirates launched services to Khartoum in 2002.

Sudan Airways are struggling to survive under sanctions

Date Published: Sunday, December 18, 2011
Reuters

Begins when the Director-General of the Sudan Airways slaves preferred Mawla listed the problems faced by the company's faltering government, it takes time to finish them. Has become a Sudan Airways - one of the oldest African airlines and flights which were organized within the continent and to the stations as far away as London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam - a shadow of its former existence. And weakened by years of U.S. sanctions and financial troubles and mismanagement problems experienced by a large part of the country in North Africa, which faces a severe economic crisis, especially since the separation of the oil-rich southern Sudan this year. With the severe isolation for the aircraft industry because of the U.S. trade embargo is limited Sudan Airways fleet of six Airbus, Boeing, Fokker, mostly age 15 years. Often marooned passengers for hours or days while facing the aircraft technical malfunction or break down on the way to the runway. Some of those who take off their aircraft even pray to God descending peacefully after several incidents in the past years. Fadel said in an interview with the Lord "Reuters" in the company's headquarters near the airport of Khartoum that the sanctions have a negative impact on everything from maintenance to spare parts.

He added that all the problems faced by the company lies in the fleet and that the company gets parts from friends, but companies have to pay much higher prices. Washington imposed sanctions on Sudan in 1993 and incorporated in the list of state sponsors of terrorism for hosting figures such as Osama bin Laden and Ilyich Ramirez Sanchez (Carlos the Jackal). And imposed a trade embargo in 1997. The Sudanese government is trying for a long time development of the company which was founded in the era of British colonialism at the end of the forties the help of outside investors. But Kuwait's Aref Investment Group, which bought 49% stake when the government privatized 70% of the company in 2007, then withdrew and re-sell the stake of the state this year. The preferred given that Sudan Airways returned to the government and the idea is being considered now is to attract companies to be turned on before you are an investor. He expressed confidence that the lead investor last. The Sudanese government is holding talks with financial investors and foreign tankers foreign languages, one national airline (Egypt Air). The preferred given that the four candidates, all from the Middle East. He added that there is flexibility regarding the size of the share offer. And any investor will inherit a large state-owned company employs 1700 employees, a potential burden because of the difficulty of laying off staff in light of local labor laws of Sudan. The Sudan Airways banned from entering the European Union because of its artistic poor. The company organizes trips to a foreign station, about 16 in Africa and the Gulf and the Middle East. The longest flight from Khartoum to the Nigerian city of Kano. In spite of the problems that the Lord preferred to see Sudan's huge growth market for airlines, noting that only five companies were flying to Khartoum in 2002. He said that number had increased to 35 companies and Sudan Airways transported 167 thousand passengers in domestic flights in the last year and the number rose to 260 thousand this year. He preferred to Mawla "Khartoum can be a center for all of Africa."
